Tullow Oil plc (Tullow) is pleased to announce that it has closed the refinance of US$3.5 billion of Reserves Based Lend (“RBL”) credit facilities. The arrangements are fully committed, secured and revolving credit facilities and replace the previous facility which was due to expire in 2015.

The US$3.5 billion of credit facilities are split between a Senior Facility of US$3.235 billion, a Junior Facility of US$100 million, and an IFC facility of US$165 million all with a final maturity of November 2019. In addition, Tullow has an option to increase the Senior Facility by up to an additional US$500 million subject to receipt of further lender commitments.

On Wednesday 31 October, facility documentation was signed by a syndicate of 27 international lenders, including the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group. Mandated Lead Arrangers include BNP Paribas, Bank of America, Barclays Bank, Credit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank, Deutsche Bank, DNB Bank, HSBC Bank, ING Bank, Lloyds TSB Bank, Natixis, Nedbank, Société Générale, Standard Chartered Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and The Royal Bank of Scotland.

Ian Springett, Chief Financial Officer for Tullow commented today:
“We are very pleased to close these arrangements which will refinance our existing RBL credit facilities. In conjunction with our strong operating cash flows this will provide a solid foundation for funding our major development projects in Ghana as well as other capital investments. The very positive support which we received from our relationship banks is welcome at a time of continuing uncertainty in global capital markets.”

Uganda Parliament has supported the proposed construction of a specialized health facility to handle maternal and neo-natal health in Kampala.

The money to be used in the construction of this health facility has been donated by the Islamic Development Bank. The member countries of the Islamic Development bank include Syria, Iran, Lebanon and Somalia.

Sources in government told us that the hospital to be built will also house a functional tertiary referral 320-bed specialized maternal and neo-natal health care unit.

Currently the maternal and infant mortality rate in Uganda stands at 435 maternal deaths per 1000 live births and 76 deaths per 1,000 respectively.

Sources in Uganda’s health sector say that the construction of this female health facility will check on the poor health infrastructure at Mulago hospital.  The sources also add that this women hospital to be built will check on the ever increasing number of patients.

Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) has officially commissioned a health centre III at Moruita in Nakapiripirit district, in southern part of Karamoja sub region.

The CDF General Aronda Nyakairima who was the chief guest today opened a health centre III in Moruita in Nakapiripirit district amidst ululations from the locals.

The health centre which he insisted should be called 407 Brigade Health centre III to avoid being grabbed by district authorities is located at the new home of the UPDF 407 Brigade headquarters in Moruita.

The construction of this centre started on the 27th of Jan 2009 by the UPDF Engineers Brigade when Gen Aronda laid the foundation and promised to complete it.

The well furnished centre has a theatre, Laboratory, two wards for male and female, Doctors room, councilor’s room and other apartments.

In his speech, General Aronda promised that the centre will be fully equipped and open to both the army and the public but ran sort of appointing a military Doctor instead handed over the facility to the District health officer Nakapiripirit to over see it until a military Doctor is Identified. He also promised that UPDF will stay in Karamoja until peace, security and development are irreversible.

Speaker after speaker hailed the UPDF for the work the army has done for the local communities in the area pouring prizes to the local commander there Lt Col Moses Kwikiriza as the best commander ever and they demanded that Aronda promotes him in recognition of his good working relationship with wanainch but Aronda later in his speech insisted that with or without promotion Lt col kwikiriza will have to continue serving the people of Karamoja diligently. He added that UPDF is just playing a supplementary role in fulfilling the president’s pledge of improving NAADS and Health.

He reminded the people of Karamoja that the development of Karamoja was the 8th point on the 10 point program of NRA and therefore no body can stop it. That the few remaining stubborn warriors and their acts will soon be history and the people of Amudat and Nakapiripirit being near the Kenyan boarder should begin to trade with neighboring Kenya like it is the case with Gulu and South Sudan after attaining peace.

The Commander of the Engineers Brigade in UPDF announced that Moruita Health centre was the 19th constructed by his Brigade in the whole country and promised to build more.

The Chairperson LC 5 Nakapiripirit Mr John Lorot in his remarks promised to support the health centre and UPDF in its final assault on lawlessness in Karamoja while the District Health officer promised to reduce child and mother mortality using the facility.

Others who attended included the Local government leaders of the districts of Amudat and Nakapiripirit, RDCs, area councilors and the local citizens.

As Ugandans prepare for the festive season normally characterized by busying desired items and good eating, some corporate organizations are helping the less fortunate to be in festive mood during the season.

Star Times Digital Television Company has given out assorted items worth 5 million shillings to the Mapera Bakateyamba a home of poor and disadvantaged people in Nalukolongo.

Star Times TV Marketing Manager Simon Arinaitwe says as a corporate company that draws profits from the community, it is obliged to give back to the people especially at this festive season where values of love and sharing are emphasized.

Arinaitwe handed over assorted items including food, detergents, and a television set with Star Times Subscription for ten years to help in the running of the home of the disadvantaged people.

The Assistant Administrator at Bakateyamba Home, Sister Hellen Kobushinge said that the assistance comes in handy because the facility is limited by funds to cater for a big number of disadvantaged people with different forms of disabilities.

The Mapera Bakateyaba Home that was started by Cardinal Nsubuga in 1977 under the Catholic Church currently caters for 80 elderly, clipped and poor people.
