While thousands of mourners, including Tanzanian leader Jakaya Kikwete, joined President Museveni on Monday to bid farewell to his father, Mzee Amos Kaguta, who passed away on Friday last week, the former president of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Col. Kiiza Besigye and the current FDC president, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu did not bother to go for the burial or to send their condolences.  Museveni’s political friends like president Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Salva Kiir of South Sudan at least sent him condolence messages.

Most of the mourners kept on watching all the corners to see whether Museveni’s former allies Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu and Col. Kiiza Besigye would keep their political differences aside and join Museveni while he mourns his father. Late Kaguta was buried at President Museveni’s ancestral home in Rwakituura, Kiruhura District.

Besigye says that he did not attend the burial of Museveni’s father because no one informed him about his death. Statehouse sources when contacted confirmed that they forgot to inform the leaders of political parties about the death of Kaguta. Also, the news coming from Muntu’s camp indicates that he too was not officially informed about Kaguta’s death. However, another source in FDC told Walakira Nyanzi of the Ultimate Media Consult that he would have attended the burial but he feared to go there because people would have thought that Museveni and Muntu are the same. Muntu is a former friend of Museveni who turned foe.

Geoffrey Ssenabulya, a 22 year-old resident of Sembabule, is nursing serious wounds at Mulago hospital after being burnt by his father.

The incident happened in Matete Sembabule district yesterday.

Ssenabulya says his father poured petrol in the house and ordered him to enter before setting it on fire inflicting serious burns on his face.

He adds that his father identified as Eddie Kintu later committed suicide by taking poison.

It is not clear what drove Kintu to act in such a strange manner though according to Ssenabulya his father could have been under the influence of drugs.

Yesterday the A4C leader, Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye went to pray for retired Bp John Wilson Kahigwa of North Kigezi at All Saints Church .

The deceased man of God did not get President Museveni’s Pajero because he was critical of the NRM regime.

Bishop Zac Ndiringiye told the mourners that we have equalizers in life which are death and going to toilet.

The Bishop continued that dictators have bitter death. He advised Hon Jim Muhwezi to repent. Hon Jim Muhwezi told mourners as his late father a clergy would give them prayer instead of pocket money.

The minister present Mbagutta had earlier advised mourners to always go for checks of cancers. Col. Besigye replied that in this state of the cancer Institute if one is diagnosed of the disease, what happens after?

Fellows Program for developing countries in science& Techinology

The Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellows Program helps developing countries strengthen sustainable agricultural practices by providing short-term scientific training and collaborative research opportunities to visiting researchers, policymakers and university faculty while they work with a mentor.

The program targets developing countries and matches participants with experts in their field at land-grant universities and 1890’s colleges, government agencies, international research centers and other nonprofit institutions and private companies.

The Borlaug Fellowship Program was launched in March 2004 in honor of Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, who has been hailed as the father of the Green Revolution.

In 2007, Dr. Borlaug received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest civilian award, for his lifetime contributions to improving international agriculture and global food security.

Dr. Borlaug won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970 for his success in developing high-yielding wheat varieties and reversing severe food shortages that haunted India and Pakistan in the 1960’s.

Credited with saving millions of lives, his work virtually eliminated recurring famines in South Asia and helped global food production outpace population growth.

The program is administered by USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service in cooperation with the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.S. Department of State, and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency.

Norbert Mao, the president general of DP Uganda has caused laughter in Kampala this morning when he told his party members a story of when President Museveni reportedly went to the Queen of England and asked her why his government is losing popularity yet he has done every thing to improve its image.

Mao says that the queen advised Museveni to surround himself with intelligent people. Museveni reportedly informed the Queen that he has surrounded himself with professors, doctors among other intelligent persons and scholars.

The queen reportedly called her prime minister and asked him to answer the following riddle.

”Your mother and father have a child. It is not your brother and it is not your sister. Who is it?” the prime minister answered that that child is ‘me.’

Museveni reportedly returned to Uganda and asked the following question to his cabinet ministers but none of them laboured to answer the question. Mao alleges that Museveni reportedly went ahead to ask the same question to all his friends in NRM. The DP President says that if Museveni had asked the same question to DP members, none would fail to rightly answer him. So Mao asked Museveni to sack all his ministers, quit politics and let DP takeover power, causing laughter among DP members.

The message that Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party president Dr. Olara Otunnu had packaged well yesterday that he has two daughters has been rubbished by his own party members. One of the UPC officials, David Pulkol says that he knows Otunnu well; the man does not have daughters/ a family.

Pulkol says that what is true is that Otunnu is looking after the daughters of his late brother James Otunnu, who died seven years back. He says that looking after the children of a relative does not mean that one becomes their biological father. Pulkol was speaking with scribes at Canaan restaurant near UPC head offices inKampala.

Pulkol says that because Otunnu has no children and a wife, is the reason why he has reportedly failed to run the affairs of UPC. Pulkol has repeated his usual statements that Otunnu is incompetent because he is lacking a family. Pulkol further said that he was going to get Otunnu a Karimojong woman.

Otunnu on Wednesday told a news conference that he needs the support of the community to find himself a suitable wife. Otunnu said that getting him a wife is acceptable under African culture.
