Tools used in Female Genital Mutilation

Members of Parliament from 19 African countries want the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to adopt a resolution to ban Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

In an Inter- Parliamentary Conference held on the 3^rd and 4^th of May 2010, Members of Parliament from the 19 countries who included some from Uganda agreed to push UNGA to adopt such a resolution on FGM as a means to fight the inhuman practice.

The Member of Parliament for Kinkiizi West in Kabale district, Chris Baryomunsi told Ultimate Media that the UNGA resolution is necessary because it will show the commitment of the United Nations in the fight against Female Genital Mutilation.

Female Genital Mutilation is still practiced in many African countries including Uganda and Kenya

Baryomunsi says such a resolution will also assist to support countries that are still struggling to put an end to the inhuman practice.

He says if the resolution is passed, it will be the first resolution against Female Genital Mutilation in Uganda.
