Dr. Kizza Besigye at a rally

Former FDC boss Kizza Besigye says he was not pressured to become a party candidate for the race of flag bearer for the 2016 presidential race and thanks all party members who did their best to have him nominated. While addressing the press this morning in Kampala, Besigye also accused police of acting as regime agents vowing that will have to face both local and global laws.

Besigye said this following the shooting of his supporters as they were going for his nomination and confirms that the victim one Baale has been discharged.

He also clarified on his candidature following numerous questions from various sections of the public who accuse Besigye of being politically dishonest and challenged those who raise such reports to come up with evidence against him.

He further says that he vehemently rejects the polls without electoral reforms saying this renders the exercise useless.

In Usuk County parliamentary by elections one may confirm that the NRM’s reported maladministration is at work. You may just wonder the criteria the NRM organisation may have used to get its flag bearer in the race this time when they disregarded their own NRM party constitution which spells out that the flag bearer holds the flag for 5 years whether he/she won or was defeated in the race.
The Usuk 2011 general Parliamentary elections were won by Michael Oromait who sailed on independent ticket and defeated the NRM flag bearer, Charles Olwenyi who also doubles as the NRM Katakwi District Chairman.
But after the demise of Oromait the seat fell vacant.  More interesting is that NRM quickly reportedly breached its constitution and organised primaries which saw 19 year old Proscovia Alongot Oromait, daughter of the deceased legislator and a Senior six candidate with no experience in politics defeated 5 other contenders minus Olwenyi who vowed to stand as independent but all this hullabaloo was engineered under the whims of the education minister and also Katakwi Woman MP Hon. Jesca Alupo.
One could imagine that president Museveni will very soon go to Katakwi to campaign for Alongot Oromait and disregard the flag bearer -an S6 student who even failed to address the voters soon after her nomination.
With this kind of confusion in Usuk, some Ugandans bet on this and wonder how voters will be taken for granted. The organised political camps in Usuk now are the Democratic Party and the FDC.

The Democratic Party flag bearer in the by-elections for Luwero district Woman Member of Parliament, Brenda Nabukenya has beaten other five candidates in the polls that were held yesterday 21st of November 2011.

The seat fell vacant after the High Court nullified the election of Rebecca Nalwanga of the National Resistance Movement on grounds that she bribed voters among other malpractices during the 18th February 2011 elections.

DP’s Nabukenya beat her closest challenger with 30 votes after polling 14’945 votes against NRM’s Rebecca Nalwanga who polled 14,915 votes.

Others in the race were the FDC’s Ziadah Gwokyalya 3,775, Anna Kirabo Asiimwe 3,687, Namagambe Elsie 2,193 and Lugudde Nabatanzi 191.

After declared the winner by the district returning officer Peter Kasozi, Nabukenya commended the people of Luwero for giving her mandate.

Nabukenya scoffed at the ruling party (NRM) saying that Ugandans are tired of the poor governance, corruption and embezzlement in the country.
