The republic of Uganda has marked the pro bono day. Because of the national cerebrations, the court cases that were meant to be heard today were suspended as the Acting Chief Registrar, Henry Adonyo explains.

The members of the legal fraternity in partnership with the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and the Democratic Governance Facility were part of the people who marked the pro bono day. Henry Adonyo reminded the magistrates, lawyers and judges to ensure that marginalized persons access justice.

Pro bono day is cerebrated voluntarily and without payment to judges and lawyers. On this day the members of legal fraternity mix up with people who are unable to enjoy heir rights by virtue of their circumstances, gender, age, location and voicelessness.

Even ifUgandalost one of its football referees on pitch last week, FIFA has instructed the Federation of Uganda Football association (FUFA) to make sure that all referees inUgandaundergo mandatory medical check ups.

David Ssebunya dropped out of a FUFA organized fitness test at Namboole stadium on Saturday and died. Ssebunya dropped out in the 11th of a 12 lap race complaining that he was not feeling ok and he died as he was being rushed to Mulago hospital.

The spokesperson of FUFA, Rogers Mulindwa says that the football fraternity across the world was shocked on learning that Ssebunya had died.

However Mulindwa says that FIFA has instructed FUFA to go ahead with medical tests and check ups even if one of the referees died during the exercise. Sebunya was laid to rest at Nabusungwe, Namugongo Wakiso district.

Mulindwa says that a mandatory medical test carried out on referees is necessary because it shows FUFA and FIFA whether a referee’s fitness is okay.
