Fuel trucks in Uganda have history of catching fire. When you Google Uganda fuel trucks catching fine, you will not fail to get news that fuel trucks caught fire in Jinja, Kampala, Jinja road, Mukono and Masaka road…

For example a Kampala-bound fuel truck on Friday morning caught fire after it lost control and rammed into a house at Kitega in Lugazi, still on Kampala Jinja road. Several people were injured and one person was confirmed dead.

The deceased was identified as Mohammed Sekeba, who was a security operative at attached at Special Investigation Unit in Kireka but he was camouflaging as a boda boda cyclist.

Transport experts in Uganda told us that Uganda has history of fuel trucks accidents because of poor roads network in Uganda. The donors have tried a lot to construct roads for this country but due to corruption in Uganda government, much of the money is miss used by government officials leading to doing shoddy work.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics has registered a slight increase in Inflation for the first time in several months.

The latest figures put the inflation rate at 4.9 percent up from 4.5 percent in October 2012.

The Bureau blames the increase on the hike in food prices registering an increase of 7.5 percent compared to 4.4 percent.

For energy and fuel utilities it rose to 13.8 percent from 12.8 percent in the month ending November.

This upward trend reverts Bank of Uganda’s efforts to reduce inflation.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics Director for Macro Economics Chris Mukiza explains the implication of such a development.

The good news perhaps to motorists and drivers today is that at least 10 trucks loaded with fuel have arrived in Kampala and they have been seen filling Col. Kiiza Besigye’s petrol stations in Nsambya, Namirembe road and Mengo Kisenyi.

This fuel has arrived in Kampala at the time when Uganda is experiencing fuel shortages. The fuel shortage has been reportedly caused by the fuel shipper Gulf Energy, a Kenyan gas station operator and fuel importer, which won the tender to supply fuel cargo to Ugandan companies. It is said that this oil company has not started doing its part well.

The fuel shipper failed to deliver the oil supply on time, thus causing the fuel shortages. There is fuel in Kenya but other suppliers of oil say that they have no rights to sell fuel in Uganda.

The survey our informers did in different parts of the country, Total Uganda. Kobil, Rio Oil, and City oil filling stations had increased the pump prices of petrol from 3,550 shillings to 3, 900 shillings.

After several filling stations in Uganda running out of fuel, Uganda’s minister for energy, Irene Muloni says Uganda has no capacity to store petrol that can last for two weeks.

Her statement has sent motorists and drivers into panic. The minister’s statement doesn’t show whether the oil shortage would be fixed soon.

She says that Uganda only stores fuel that last for not more than three days. Uganda gets oil supply from western Kenya. Much of the fuel Uganda uses is imported from Kenya.

But the minister’s statement has left many Ugandans baffled, wondering how former Ugandan president ‘Filed Martial, chancellor, Iddi Amin Dada, the conqueror of the British Empire’ who was scarcely educated could have thought of constructing fuel reserves and Museveni’s government that is administered by educated people  fails to build fuel reserves.

Uganda government is preparing to expand Entebbe International Airport due to increasing tourism revenue collection. Tourism is the second largest source of foreign exchange for Uganda after remittances from Ugandans working abroad. Uganda last expanded Entebbe airport 20 years ago.

The Transport and Works Minister, Eng. Abraham Byandala says the plans to expand Entebbe Airport are feasible because of the growth of the tourism industry in Uganda. Byandala says that the ministry is to expand Entebbe airport working on a strategic plan of five years.

The minister also says that Uganda will soon be making her own aviation fuel, and build large oil reserves and an aircraft maintenance center.  Dr. Rama Makuza, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Managing director, says Uganda plans to expand Entebbe airport’s car parking by making it storied and the number of aero plane hangars will be doubled from 11 to 22.

Ugandagovernment has lost over 6 billion shillings during the three day traders strike in Kampala Capital City Authority. On Wednesday this week thousands of Traders inUgandaespecially inKampalaclosed their shops protesting against the high interest rates commercial banks charge on loans.

The traders strike was peaceful although the police arrested some of the traders it suspected that they could turn violent.

The traders spokesman, Issa Sekitto says that it’s the government which has lost in the strike as over 6 billion shillings have not bee collected during the strike.

He explains that telecom companies like MTN Uganda, Uganda Telecom, WaridUgandaandOrangecollect millions of money every day from the calls traders make. Sekitto says that all these telecom companies pay taxes to the government so when the traders go on strike all the revenue the government collects on fuel stations, taxis, beverage companies, sugar factory among others also reduce.

The traders strike is ending today evening with a meeting of all traders to decide whether next week the start a violent strike.

Ugandais now among the countries inAfricaknown to have violent strikes in which many people are shot dead by the police and the army.

Millions of Ugandans who used to be so peaceful have slowly turned violent due to increasing levels of poverty, political discrimination, land grabbing executed by some of the people who have big connections in the army, police, courts of law and government.

You may think that the DP president, Norbert Mao is so loaded because he was a member of the sixth and seventh parliament and also LC5 chairman of Gulu district. However this is not the case. We have been told by impeccable sources within DP that the former legislator and Gulu district LC5 boss is currently as poor as a church mouse.

We hear he sometimes leaves his car at his home in Ntinda and uses a boda boda or a taxi to go to DP offices on city house building. When our reporters went to DP head offices to establish on the validity of the reports, they discovered that Mao had gone there with a motor cycle.

We are also told that Mao unlike his counterparts in other political parties, he drives an old pajero which sometimes fails to take him safely where he wants to go.

Everyone would expect that a son to the former president of Uganda twice, Apolo Milton Obote, Jimmy Akena would be driving escalades to go to parliament but this is not the case for Akena.

Our informers got the surprise of the day yesterday when Akena, who is the Lira Municipality MP, arrived at Uganda parliament riding a bicycle.

Akena packed his bicycle and entered the parliamentary chambers. The policemen outside the parliamentary building were overheard wondering why Akena has made it a habit of riding a bicycle to parliament.

We also kept wondering whether this is the way Akena is ‘walking to work’ a programme which the opposition politicians created in April this year.

We later learnt that the MP is promoting a particular type of bicycle that makes energy as one rides and helps in reducing fuel consumption.
