Eric Bleumink Fund Scholarship: The Eric Bleumink Fund awards scholarships to talented students and young researchers from developing countries.

The scholarships enable the students to further develop as individuals and to make important contributions to the development of their own countries.

The Eric Bleumink Fund Scholarship is for Master and PhD studies at the University of Groningen – Netherlands or a university in the developing country or one of its neighboring countries

Part of the study programme has to take place at the University of Groningen.

Level of Study: Masters or PhD in any subject

Grant award period

The grant is usually awarded for a maximum of 2 years for a Master’s degree programme, and a maximum of 4 years for a PhD. For PhD, part of the research should be conducted in the home country and part in Groningen.

Value and purpose of grant

The grant covers the tuition fees plus the costs of international travel, subsistence, books, and health insurance.

It also covers expenses incurred in traveling to and from the Netherlands for PhD candidates for a maximum of 4 times.

The journeys to the Netherlands and back home are included in the scholarship grant.

Holders are entitled to a living allowance of Euro 735 per month for food and accommodation.

In the case of a short stay in the Netherlands, the University of Groningen will make lodging arrangements for this period.

Allowances are paid in a monthly advance at the beginning of the month.

Hilde Back Education Fund: Thousands of bright children in Kenya especially in the rural areas continue to drop out of primary and secondary school because of lack of funds. Hilde Back Education Fund (HBEF) is a charitable community-based group registered under the laws of Kenya to pursue the following objectives:

  • To provide education scholarships and other academic opportunities to bright children from poor families and disadvantaged communities.
  • To unlock the unexplored potential in children and young persons from disadvantaged communities by making available to them a wide variety of new local and international opportunities in the areas of education, arts, sports, science and modern technology.
  • To inculcate public service values on the youth by encouraging them to participate in community development projects aimed at achieving community self-reliance and advancement.
  • To protect and promote the right of education for all, as provided for under international human rights instruments.

Fund Application Eligibility Criteria:

  • Exceptional academic performance: The applicant must provide documentary proof that he or she has been an outstanding pupil and that he or she is among the top three pupils in the class. Secondary school applicants must have scored a minimum of 380 marks out of 500 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
  • Dire financial need: The applicant must demonstrate that his or her family is unable to provide the funds needed to continue with school.
  • Availability of funds: Scholarship grants are subject to availability of funds.

Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund Scholarships: Each year, the MMMF awards grants to women from developing countries engaged in graduate studies in the United States or Canada.

The applicants must be at least 25 years of age, must have demonstrated a commitment to work for the benefit of women and children in the developing world, and must plan to return to their countries within two years of receiving the grant.

The following documents are required and must be mailed together to the MMMF, postmarked no later than February 29:

  • Your most recent transcript (available from your college or university Registrar’s Office)
  • A copy of your Registration
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation

Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund Scholarships Grant amount: About US$11,000

For study in: USA and Canada

Not renewable:

Must be 25 years and above.

Must be a national of a developing country that is currently eligible to borrow from the World Bank.

Cannot be a U.S. Green Card holder.

  • Official estimate of expenses for foreign students as published by your institution. (available from the Foreign Student Advisor or Financial Aid office of your college or university)
  • One (1) passport-size photograph.
  • Copy of your Visa.
