MakaPads_Technology-for-TomorrowThe Member of Parliament for Gomba west in Gomba district Robinah Rwaboga says that as government is looking for funds to provide sanitary pads to the girl child in schools there should be an intervention to urgently give girls in schools sanitary pads. Rwabwoga says that a number of girls are missing 3-4 days in a week over lack of sanitary pads being that they are expensive for young girls and poor parents to access it.

She says that many girls have failed to complete their studies making the number of girls dropping out of school to go up.She proposes that there should be a private initiative of making local sanitary pads for women, pledging to give support to any person with such creativity so as girls access them at a low price.

The president while campaigning for presidency, promised to avail sanitary towels to girls in schools so as they stay in schools.

Cross generational sex is sighted as a leading cause of HIV infections among young girls in Uganda.

At least 570 young girls are infected with HIV in Uganda according to the latest findings by a United Nations report.

The findings is a set back to the country’s efforts to curb the scourge that has claimed thousands of lives since it was first discovered in the early 80’s.

It is also more scaring as the report points out that the most infected group with HIV is that of girls especially between the ages of 15-24 years.

“Go look at those posh vehicles parked at girls university hostels, those men are not picking or visiting their daughters but they are picking other people’s daughters,” said Dr Zepher Ranyabokabo from Ministry of Health who attributed this trend to cross-generational sex and the use of money to lure unsuspecting young naïve girls.

Ranyabokabo was speaking during a dissemination conference on the current prevalence HIV rate hosted by Alliance of African Mayors’ Initiative for Community Action on Aids at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala yesterday. The conference was intended to draw strategies to improve urban health, end cholera and HIV/Aids pandemic by 2030.

“In Africa, Uganda is second to South Africa, where at least 2,363 get infected with HIV every week, compared to 468 for Kenya, 491 for Tanzania and only 25 for Rwanda,” says the UNAIDS report dated 2013, which also quotes the 2014 US President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief.

The report put teenage girls in the group of key populations where HIV prevalence is highest. The group was in the past dominated by sex workers, fishermen, long distance truck drivers and boda boda cyclists.

Girls from the age of 20-22 have a 7.1 per cent prevalence rate, while boys of the same age have a significantly lower prevalence rate at 2.8 per cent. It says, between the ages of 23 and 24 years, girls’ prevalence rate remains significantly high at 7 per cent more than that of boys of the same age bracket.

Is Uganda really independent when over 40% of our budget is sponsored by European colonial powers? When people are in causality and ward 3B of Mulago hospital waiting and getting no medical attention, ‘waiting to die,’ when one ‘s freedom can be taken away anytime, like in the case of col. Kiiza Besigye and Kampala Lord mayor, Erias Lukwago.
More still Ugandans still have people being kidnapped, rapped, killed, murdered, and no one knows where they are.
In Uganda someone stays on remand at Luzira prison for over 10 years and later released on grounds that he/she was innocent.
Is Uganda really independent when LRA rebel leader Joseph Kony could kidnap girls, and kill over 200 people at ago at Barlonyo? Recently Ugandans cerebrated 50 years of independence. But to critics it was cerebrating the 50 years of pain. The only difference we have in Uganda is having the likes of president Museveni failing to put a successful war on corruption.

Kitgum woman MP Beatrice Anywar has asked government to set up protective homes for nodding syndrome people in Kitgum.

Anywar said that several of girls who are victims of nodding syndrome were defiled by some men and the latest incidents are reported to have happened on the 50 years of Independence Day celebrations.

Addressing journalists at parliament, Anywar said that three girls were raped on the night of Independence Day but no cases have been brought to court for mention despite arrests made a week ago.

She alleged that there are some nodding girls who are pregnant while three others recently gave birth but the fathers of these babies are not known to the parents.

Anywar added that the nodding disease victims lack food and asked government to give food to these families.

Anywar re-echoed her call to the government to intensify its campaign against nodding disease.

She said that there are recent cases of nodding disease that have been registered in Kitgum district.

He asked government to put more funds in research on nodding and if possible take some of the victims abroad for more research to be conducted.

Experts from center for disease control and world health organization have however have not yet come out with clear causes of the nodding disease.

Kampala Catholic Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has asked parents and guardians to teach their daughters the difference between men who flatters girls and those who compliments girls.
He says girls need to know men who spend money on them and men who invest in them. Lwanga says girls need to know men who view girls as property and those men who view girls properly.
Addressing parents at Lubaga Catholic Church in Kampala, Dr. Lwanga said a girl needs to know a man who lusts her and a man who loves her.
“Girls need to know a man who believes that he is a gift to women and a man who remembers that a woman is a gift to a man,” he says.

The Police spokesman for Buganda region, Lameca Kigozi has cautioned female students to desist from acts of prostitution as they returned home for their second term school holidays.

Kigozi says that many sweetie’ looking young girls engage in acts of dating married men and indulge in acts of prostitution during holidays putting their lives in danger of contracting Sexually Transmitted Diseases and having their faces destroyed in acid attacks.
Speaking to journalists at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala, Kigozi said many cases of child prostitution are registered in Uganda police where young girls are found in areas that are known for criminal behaviors like prostitution.

The police spokesman advises parents to use these holidays to teach their children how to do domestic work and try to make them responsible people in the society.
