Addressing journalists together with the human rights network, the team leader Tweraneho listeners club, Gerald Kankya said it was timely to compensate and support these children for the time wasted while working in these quarries where they were immensely violated.

Kankya argued that these children neglected school to work in these quarries adding that ever since they lost their jobs, they are living in a deplorable situation.

Meanwhile the coordinator Human Rights network Patrick Tumwine said the call is in relation with United Nations guiding principles for companies to protect human rights and also ensure access to remedy to business abuse.

Following a report that was contained in the Red Pepper of August 20^th 2012, titled “government loses $1.3bn to fake investors,” alleging that cement worth $3m went missing from Hima cement factory in Kases, the general manager of Hima cement clarifies that their company has never entered into any transaction with the government of Uganda or any other government agency concerning a company called Northern equipment and machines.”

The manager says that Hima Cement is unaware of any investment arrangement between Uganda government and the company in question.

In a press statement the company issued today, the manager says that at no time has the government paid Hima for purchase of 50,000 tons of cement as part of the alleged investor incentive and no such transaction exists in the company’s records.

He further says that Hima expects the media to report objectively and authenticate any information that they may have before publication.
