Human right activists are calling on Government to abolish the death penalty because it is not a deterrent that addresses grave offenses in the country.

Foundation for Human Rights Initiative, executive director, Livingstone Sewanyana who is calling for the abolition of the death penalty.

Foundation for Human Rights Initiative, executive director, Livingstone Sewanyana who is calling for the abolition of the death penalty.

Speaking at the function to commemorate the world day against the death penalty on Wednesday, the Executive Director, Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI), Dr. Livingstone Sewanyana, said that the death penalty should be replaced by life imprisonment because it gives people opportunity to reform and be exemplary in their communities.

Sewanyana further argues that sometimes the criminal justice system is not effective and eventually innocent people end up committed to death
