Human Rights Activists have threatened to drag government to court over what they deemed as infringing on human rights through registering phone Sim cards.

This was revealed at a dialogue organized by rights bodies that included Human Rights Network and Human Rights Network for Journalists to discuss dangers embedded in Sim card registration.

According to the Programs Coordinator of Human Rights Network for Journalist Ssebagala Wokulila, registering Sim cards is exposing ones’ privacy putting a person’s life at risk especially those critical of government

Ssebagala wonders how privacy will be maintained when already people are receiving unsolicited messages.

The activists now want the Uganda Communications Commission to first come up with clear guidelines on protecting people’s privacy instead of embarking on registration blindly
