SpeakerTwo independent members of parliament joined the race for the deputy speakership for the 10th parliament this week. Kampala central member of parliament Mohammed Nsereko and west Budama south member of parliament Jacob Oboth Oboth say that they have the required experience to deputize the speaker and chair parliament.

Mohammed Nsereko says that he will look for votes from unique majority members of parliament all over the political parties and independents to make a number of 300 members of parliament to vote him out of the 458 members of parliament in the 10th parliament. He is intending to release a taskforce of 65 members of parliament to roll out his campaign to every member of parliament seeking his vote, though currently he is claiming having 91 one members of parliament willing to give him their vote for the post of the deputy speaker.

Another independent member of parliament from West Budama south Oboth Oboth says that he is aspiring for this seat since the current deputy speaker is contesting for the post of the speaker. He says that he is a better choice for the deputy speaker slot since he knows rules of parliament, has a legal mind and has chaired the rules and privileges committee of parliament. He notes that he has written to all political parties with members of parliament asking them to give him support.

The two independents MPs will wait for another person from NRM primaries who include David Bahati, Jovah Kamateka, Denis Bua and Monica Amoding to tussle out with for this hotly contested seat.

The NRM party has called on ministers who lost in primaries and are running as independents for parliamentary seats to withdraw from the race or risk being decampaigned. The was disclosed by the party secretary general Justine Kasule Lumumba, noting that such a minister is no longer a member of NRM and it is showing that ministers with this character have mistrust in the appointing authority.
Kasule said that for the cabinet minister to contest as independent it’s a sign that he or she is out to fight and fail NRM. She noted that such actions are bound to cause NRM party to lose in the elections. She said that ministers who failed in party primaries should be disciplined and go out of race and start campaigning  for the party flag bearer. She vowed that if they refuse going out the race will be decampaigned more than the opposition party candidates.

Among the minister running as independents include Kahinda Otafire, Assuman Kiyingi, Jesca Alupo , Vincent Nyanzi, Aida Nantaba, Henry Banyenzaki, Sarah Opendi, Christine Aporu,  among others.
In other news the youth have mixed reactions on which president they would like to vote for in the 2016 presidential elections and they fear that  bribing voters could cause the country to miss out on  the president they want. The youth note that because of the ignorance which is still among voters about choosing the better president with a good manifesto, the youth end up seeing a president who is not of their choice voted.

Some said they will go and vote a president whom they think is better suitable for the country while others are still undecided. The youth said that they want a president who does not have greed for power, who is not extravagant and who does not change the constitution.

Presidential Candidate Mabirizi Joseph

Independent presidential candidates under their campaign cam, The independent coalition, that houses, Mabirizi Joseph and Faith Kyarya are calling on the electoral laws to be checked to have them fully facilitated with vehicles to enable them move safely across the country as they hold their campaigns.

Speaking to one of the top officials of the independent coalition, Omar Kalingenyago, on the matter, he maintains that their candidates fully paid the fees that were asked by the electoral commission despite the amendments at a very last minute but to their surprise the amendments scrapped facilitation of candidates which, according to the independents, is a total violation of right to full democracy.
Nyago now expresses fears that their candidates might not hold smooth rallies as they can not easily move to meet with their supporters.

The Democratic Party and the rulling NRM have deployed their supporters in different polling stations during the Busiro North by elections this Thursday to curtail vote rigging allegations on either side. A low turn up is being reported but voting is going on smoothly in most areas.

According to the head of DP parliamentary committee on by elections, Joseph Ssewungu, over 1000 youths have been stationed at the different polling centers in a bid to avert any plans of vote rigging or ballot stuffing by their rivals.

Ssewungu expresses confidence that the party will secure a landslide win in the elections.

He is however worried of voter bribery and rigging but warns those intending to do so that DP is watching them sternly.

The race is between former Vice president, Gilbert Bukenya, Dps Caster Bukenya, and independents Henry Kiwuuwa and Kanzara Theopista Baliluno
