]]> Inmates at Luzira prison have told us that the government many times sends its spies in prisons to spy on suspects. They say spies camouflage as fellow suspects and milk highly important intelligence information from the inmates.

One of the inmates at Luzira prison who was arrested during the recent demonstrations in Kampala says that the spies go to Luzira and ask them whether they are ready to join the garrison that will fight against the Kampala government after serving their sentences.

The inmate who talked to us on condition of anonymity for fear of the repercussions told us that the spies are many in Luzira and they are made to stay with hardcore criminals. However the inmate told us that the genuine inmates happen to notice the spies and avoid all conversations with them. In fact a source in police told us that the system of planting spies among the inmates has helped the force to get the necessary intelligence information.
