Hundreds of shops in Kampala, Mityana, Masaka and Mubende district have been closed as traders under their umbrella association of Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) started their three-day sit down strike protesting against high interest rates charged on loans by commercial banks.

The commercial banks operating in Uganda charge over 27% on loans. Our reporters in Mityana, Kampala and Mubende among other districts have told us that most of the shops in Kampala and other districts have not opened today amidst the government requests to them to open the shops.

The spokesman of Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA), Issa Sekitto has told us that they will continue with the strike for the next three days until the government directs commercial banks to reduce the interest rates. The government deployed soldiers to threaten traders not to open shops in vain.

Kyadondo South MP Issa Kikungwe can now put his numerous ideas about soccer into practice. The critic of the National Resistance Movement government we hear has started a football club in Makindye .

The club is called Masajja FC and the MP is the team manager, coach, financer, doctor, accountant, cashier, in brief  Kikungwe is everything for the team.

The MP who is known for his marketing skills says he is building a team that will join the National league and perhaps represent Uganda in international foras.

Let’s think the MP doesn’t become like other politicians who promise a lot and do little. Kikungwe says that when he retires from politics he will resort to sports and businesses.

Uganda journalists operating in South Buganda (Greater Masaka) under their umbrella association of South Buganda Journalists Association have threatened to mobilize people to storm UMEME offices protesting against increased road shedding.

The scribes want to storm UMEME offices demanding an explanation for the persistent loading shedding. The scribes through their head, Aliga Issa say they work 24 hours a day but the increased load shedding in Masaka has hampered their operations.

Aliga has told our informers that Masaka town has been in darkness for the last two weeks and that it is increasingly difficult for them to file stories on time due to shortage of power in the town.

Efforts to get a comment from UMEME’s boss in charge of Masaka branch, Kivebulaaya Kirunda Magoola were futile. But other media houses last week quoted him as saying that UMEME was experiencing technical problems which he promised would be resolved soon.

This morning the residents of Zanna on Kampala Entebbe road were shocked to see Issa Kikungwe’s (Kyadondo South) pajero run out of fuel in the middle of the road.

Good enough, the car run out of fuel when it was near a petro station. People immediately came and pushed it to the petrol station where the mp refueled it with only 15, 000 shillings. Now just imagine the MP’s car is running out of fuel what happens to other less earning Ugandans?
