Minister of Agriculture, Vincent Ssempijja.

The Minister of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries, Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja has said his ministry has started the process of enacting a law which will help to guide all coffee farmers in the country.

Ssempijja revealed this while meeting with a delegation from JAB Holding Company from America which is one of the largest coffee buyer and roasters in the world at the ministry’s offices in Entebbe.

He said the law is intended at emphasizing the quality of coffee produced in Uganda and proper management of the crop. He added that government has allocated money to help farmers increase on the acreage, adding that government is also doing everything possible in providing water for irrigation to farmers to ensure constant supply of coffee.

The minister also told the delegation that his ministry is planning to sensitize people in areas where coffee is not grown to also start planting, he added that he has started mobilizing farmers into organized groups for easy access of government support.

Axel Bhat, the leader of the delegation from JAB Holding said his company is ready to buy whatever volume of coffee produced by Ugandan farmers.
