The Opposition in Parliament has vowed not to bow to pressure from President Yoweri Museveni to go slow on his efforts to give away Mabira Forest.

Last week, President Museveni announced that he was planning to give away 7,100 hectares of the forest to Sugar Corporation of Uganda Limited.

On Tuesday, President Museveni, while meeting Kampala City Traders and Kwagalana Group at State House, Entebbe, is quoted to have said that he is ready for war on sugar.

Speaking to the media today, Kitgum Woman MP, Beatrice Anywar, as well as Rubaga South MP, Ken Lukyamuzi said the threats by the President will not stop them from mobilizing Ugandans to demonstrate over the giveaway.

Anywar says the Inspector General of Government should probe government’s dealings with Mehta group, the owners of SCOUL.

Lukyamuzi, on the other hand, said government should look for alternative land for Mehta elsewhere.

Members of Parliament have accused the Inspector General of Government (IGG) Raphael Baku of selective prosecution of alleged corruption suspects.

IGG Raphael Baku

Legislators have expressed anger that many of the suspects are cleared by the IGG with a handful being prosecuted in the courts of law.

Members of the ninth Parliament, MPs Muhammad Nsereko (Kampala), Nebanda  Cerinah (Butaleja) and Lukyamuzi Ken(Rubaga South)said the IGG should be impartial in executing his constitutionally delegated duties.

They reaffirmed the need for reduction in duplication of duties and the need to separate politics from the work of the IGG.

But IGG Raphael Baku says the fight against corruption can drastically reduce if improvements in the wages of civil servants are undertaken by government. He says the meager pay checks for many of the public servants places them in vulnerable positions.

The President of the Conservative Party Ken Lukyamuzi the man has given the state two weeks to pay him 500 million shillings or he goes to court to seek an injunction blocking the national resistance movement candidate Yoweri Museveni.

The Supreme Court ordered the government to pay Lukyamuzi costs and damages after he sued the president for failing to appoint judges to hear his petition.

Lukyamuzi had sued the state and the Inspector General of Government for over his removal from parliament over alleged failure to declare his assets as per the leadership code.

Lukyamuzi told journalists today that had spoken formally to the Attorney General Prof. Kiddu Makubuya over the matter.

He says the Attorney General approached him for an out of court settlement but Lukyamuzi believes the delay was technically intended to deny him justice.

The President General of the Conservative Party, John Ken Lukyamuzi prepares to stage a peaceful demonstration any time at Parliament following the House’s refusal to pay him 43 million shillings.

Parliament deflected responsibility for the payment of emoluments in compensation to Lukyamuzi who court ruled recently was illegally removed from Parliament in 2005.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga announced on June 29th during a plenary that Uganda Parliament had written to the Solicitor General inquiring who should pay Lukyamuzi’s emoluments of 43 million shillings.

Lukyamuzi says the Deputy Speaker is playing delaying tactics so the need to stage a demonstration at Parliament to awaken her up. The 43 million shillings is compensation for the five months Lukyamuzi missed when he was illegally removed from Parliament.

The Supreme Court ruled that the former Inspector General of Government, Faith Mwondha wrongfully dismissed Lukyamuzi for failing to declare his wealth and ordered that all his emoluments for the five months be paid. The court however did not put it clear who should bear the cost of the compensation. Lukyamuzi sued Parliament, the Electoral Commission and the Inspector General of Government.
