Vice President, Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi is again in deep trouble with his main political rival in Bukoto central, Jude Mbabaali.

This time, Sekandi’s problems arise after a group of voters in Bukoto Central re-petitioned the High Court seeking to have Sekandi out of parliament. In the first instance it was Mbabaali who petitioned court seeking the same.

However the Catholic Church and the Buganda kingdom sat down with Mbabaali and requested him to save Sekandi, because when he removes him from parliament, Sekandi will consequently lose his post as Vice President.

The Bishops headed by Bishop Kaggwa of Masaka Catholic Diocese have now recalled Mbabaali, Sekandi and the petitioners for a meeting due to take place on Sunday in Masaka.

Mbabaali says that it is Sekandi’s government that has failed to split Bukoto Central into two constituencies as earlier agreed. He says that the voters in Bukoto know that Sekandi rigged his way to parliament and they don’t want him.

So Sekandi has to fulfill whatever he promised Mbabaali if he wants to stay in the house and perhaps remain on the post of Vice president.

Democratic Party’s Jude Mbabaali has withdrawn an election petition against the vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, on the mediation of the Church and Buganda Katikiiro.

Ssekandi was dragged to court by Mbabaali in March this year claiming that the February 18th polls were fraught with irregularities.

In his petition, Mbabali had accused Ssekandi of bribing the former Returning officer of Masaka Tugume Mugisha, to alter the declaration forms in his favour yet he had won the elections.

Mbabaali also accused Ssekandi of using state operatives like police and soldiers to stir violence in Bukoto central which intimidated his supporters.

Mbabaali withdrew the petition following a reconciliatory meeting mediated by the Catholic Church in Masaka and the Katikiiro of Buganda Eng. J.B Walusimbi.

Mbabali denied allegations that he was bribed saying his decision followed information that Bukoto Central constituency was going to be sub-divided into two constituencies.

Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi while welcoming Mbabali’s withdrawal also said he had not paid any money to Mbabali or offered anything in return.
