Uganda Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya has appealed to the people of Buganda to develop the Kabaka’s Lake for tourism and other recreation activities.

The Kabaka Lake which covers an area of 30 acres is located in Uganda Capital City of Kampala and is probably the deepest man-made lake in the world at about 35 meters deep.

The lake was created by Buganda Kingdom King, Kabaka Mwanga II using poor rudimentary tools like hoes to show Buganda’s superiority to the world according to some Buganda activists.

Speaking at the Buganda Kingdom tourism expo on Wednesday, Bukenya advised the Buganda people to clean and fence it to enable it attract tourists and generate revenues for Buganda Kingdom. The lake is currently in a sorry state because of contamination.

If developed, the lake will help boost Buganda’s tourism revenues which are already affected by the recent burning down of the World Heritage site of Kasubi Tombs in early 2010 where four Buganda kings were buried.
