Masaka High Court judge Justice Michael Chibita has sentenced businessman Godfrey Kato Kajubi to life imprisonment for the 2008 ritual murder of 12 year old Joseph Kasirye.

The judge read read his ruling to a fully packed court room on Thursday July 26, 2012 in the afternoon hours. The judge’s ruling was welcomed by many residents of Masaka and the country at large. The relatives of the deceased also praised the judge and said that at last justice had been achieved.

On hearing the sentence Kato Kajubi cried loud that ‘your majesty save me because all my businesses are going to collapse,’ but the judge simply stood up and walked out as the prison authorities were driving Kajubi to Luzira.
The case against Kato Kajubi was under a retrial after the Directorate of Public Prosecution and the inspector general of police, Kale Kayihura challenged the High Court’s earlier decision to acquit Kajubi.

In his ruling the judge said that the court had learnt and got convinced that Kajubi sponsored the ritual murder of a 12 year old Joseph Kasirye, who was a pupil of Kayugi Primary School in Mukungwe sub-county in Masaka district on October 27, 2008.

Kampala metropolitan Police commander Andrew Felix Kawesi says they are awaiting the principle judge to appoint a judge that will hear Kajubi’s case as the court of appeal decided.

Kajubi was yesterday re-arrested at a shrine in Lweza along Entebbe road where he was hiding since the court of appeal ordered for the retrial of his murder case.

The city businessman is accused of masterminding the killing of a 12yr old Joseph Kasirye in 2008 whose body was found dumped in a swamp in Masaka district with the aid of a traditional healer Umaru Kateregga and his wife Mariam Nabukeera.

Kawesi says Kajubi’s case may this time be heard in a high court though he might be taken back to Masaka.
