As farmers return to garden and are reporting army worm, government says that the army worm to stay in farmers gardens for some time as the researchers are developing scientific biological methods to deal with the persistent army worm.

The minister of Agriculture Vincent Bamulangaki Sempijja said that as government intensifies ways of stopping army worm, farmers should keep spraying their gardens with herbicides to control the army worm.

He said that researchers are considering infesting some army worm to attack and wipe out the normal army worm.

Army worm are more damaging maize and sugar cane plants.

Farmers losses over outbreak  of army worm could have bigger implication for the economy since  food prices had remained high because of the last poor harvest.

The fall army worm  was first detected in the three districts of Kayunga, Kasese and Bukedea between May and July 2016 but now it has spread in many districts

Uganda today joins the rest of the world to mark the day of the African child, a day commemorated every year on 16 June, with Dr. Maggie Kigozi appointed Children’s Rights Ambassador. Main celebrations are taking place in Kayunga under the Theme “Accelerating our Collective Efforts to End Child Marriage in Africa” The day was created by the African Union to commemorate the massacre of hundreds of children in Soweto, South Africa who were demonstrating for the basic right to a decent education. It has since to focus a global spotlight on the injustices African children face. This year it points the light to child brides.

Almost two million Ugandan minors are forced or lured into alleged marriage, according to 2012 UNFPA, UNICEF, WHO reportS. Uganda falls among the 15 worst African countries with high numbers of child brides at 46% of underage girls below 18 forced or lured into marriage.

In a move to end the worrying child marriages, the Uganda Child Rights NGO Network (UCRNN) has appointed Dr Magie Kigozi as the Children’s Rights Ambassador to help fight the vice. Uganda Child Rights NGO Network (UCRNN) Executive Director Stella Ayo-Odongo explains that the move is intended to eradicate child marriage.

Dr. Besigye’s trip to Kayunga District (Bugerere) in central Uganda was a success.

Besigye met his party leaders and later held two rallies in Kayunga town council and another as you go to Bbale sub county headquarters.

The FDC president told his party leaders that if they want power, they should toil for it.

Besigye asked FDC members to finance their party and don’t wait for donors to do the financing because the donors give a lot of conditions.

Besigye told his supporters at the rallies to get prepared for another program of demonstrations saying that it has been found out that elections can not change regimes in Africa.

Besigye went to Kayunga with his party members: Bwanika Bbale (FDC Deputy Secretary for Mobilisation in Buganda), Mukalazi Kibuuka (FDC Secretary for Labour).Police was heavily deployed in Kayunga town.

Inmates at Luzira prison have petitioned UN to register their claims which involve the long detention in prison without trial. Some of the prisoners who have petitioned UN include those who were arrested during theBugandakingdom riots in 2009.

The inmates in their petition indicated that many prisoners are languishing at Luzira prison and other unknown places after theBugandakingdom riots when President Museveni’s security agents blocked the Katikkiro of Buganda Eng. JB Walusimbi from visiting Kayunga ahead of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s visit in the area.

The Kabaka was scheduled to visit Kayunga to openBugandakingdom youths day cerebrations. A number of the suspects were reportedly picked from their homes, places of work and places of worship. Painfully to note, the whereabouts of some of the suspects ofBugandariots is not started. The inmates want UN to assist them to urgeUgandagovernment and security agents to release them.

From January 2012, the Uganda National Action on Physical Disability (UNAPD) launched the Membership Empowerment Project (MEP) in 12 districts of Uganda, but the one that has taken place today in Kayunga was distinctive. There were many dances, lots of food, thousands of people and an exhibition.

However, these are not the only factors that made this launch distinctive but the presence of the Vice President, Edward Ssekandi who has launched the project. The launch was also blessed and witnessed by the State Minister in Charge of the Elderly and Disability, Hon. Sulaiman Madada, MPs representing People with Disabilities (PWDs) and several other dignitaries from the central Government and Kayunga District local administration.

“I hereby launch the Membership Empowerment Project), a three year project operational in 12 districts and supported by some development partners,” Sekandi said and added.

“It is my strong conviction that this will reinforce the existing agencies supporting our persons with disabilities.” The project seeks to make sure that persons with physical disabilities enjoy equal rights in all aspects of life and are included equally into development programs and projects such as NAADS, Prosperity for All, Northern Uganda Social Action Fund, among others.

The project is implemented in 12 districts including Kayunga, Kiboga, Mubende (central region); Mbarara, Bushenyi and Kisoro (western); Arua, Oyam and Kitgum (northern); Busia, Palissa and Kaberamaido in the east. It is supported by three organisation of persons with disabilities in Denmark: Danish Handicap Forbund; Danish Brain Injury Support Association; and Disabled Sports Organisation Denmark.

Also at the launch, UNAPD’s treasurer Ark Goffin Candria, handed over a copy of the Accessibility Standards to the vice president and asked him to support UNAPD in her endeavour to make the Standards part of the upcoming Building Control Act. Candria noted that one of the biggest challenges persons with physical disabilities face is the inaccessible physical environment. He explained that most of the services are offered in inaccessible building and places, making it impossible for many PWDs to access services. He said with the adoption of the Standards as part of the law, UNAPD hopes that the law will be observed and enforced by the relevant agencies to make building and other facilities usable to all people. Sekandi hailed UNAPD for coming up with the Standards and pledged to push for annexing of the same to the Building Control Act. He also handed over three wheel chairs donated by UNAPD to persons with physical disabilities. Sekandi also   commissioned the International Day for Persons with Disabilities in Kayunga, ahead of the national celebrations that were observed in Lira district on December 3, 2012. The function was organised by Sulaiman Madada, the MP for Bbaale County in Kayunga, partly to thank his voters for reelecting him into Parliament and to commission several development initiatives in the district. PWDs MPs Hellen Asamo, Alex Ndeezi and William Nokrach attended the ceremony. Several officials from the central Government and Kayunga district local government witnessed the ceremony.

The spokesman of the brigade is William Mpiima while the chairperson of the brigade is Rashid Mukwaya. Mukwaya confirms the formation of the group.

The brigade has branches in Kayunga, Buruli (Nakasongola) andKampalaamong others. The members of the group will put on black colours whenever on duty of guarding the Kabaka. The group members are trained in martial art skills.
