Security minister Muruli Mukasa has condemned the suspected arson attack on the house of Member of Parliament for Buyaga county Barnabus Tinkasimire.

Tinkasimire’s house was last night gutted by a fire whose cause is yet to be established.

Barnabas Tinkasimire

The house is located in Kitete C, Ham Mukasa Zone, Mukono Central Division.

The fire seriously injured Agnes Tinkasimire the MP’s ex-wife and her unidentified house maid, who were in the house at the time.

The two are admitted at Mulago hospital in critical condition.
Addressing journalists at parliament Muruli said that government is going to investigate and get to the root of the matter.

Last week Tinkasimire told journalists that he was receiving calls from unknown people threatening to take his life as well as destroy his properties if he did not stop pushing for the demolition of illegal structures in the city by KCCA.

President Museveni’s political party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) on Wednesday lost Butambala county MP by elections to DP’s Muwanga Kivumbi.

Muwanga Kivumbi polled 14,754 votes against his closest challenger NRM’s Faisal Kikulukunyu who polled 12,792. Uganda Federal Alliance’s Ibrahim Tomusage polled third with 150 votes while Independent candidate, Shafiq Sentamu came fourth with 124 votes and another Independent candidate Farouk Walungama polled 60 votes. The seat fell vacant after Court overturned the election of NRM’s Faisal Kikulukunyu over electoral irregularities.

But many people were left wondering why NRM lost this election yet its candidate was so popular in Butambala and above all an incumbent. However our informers on the ground have been told that Kikulukunyu lost the seat not because he was bad but because of the party that fronted him, NRM. The people of Butambala told us that when President Museven and his wife went to Butanbala they annoyed, embarrassed and reminded the people there why they should not and never again vote for NRM and people who are friends to Museveni’s family. The president’s convoy of cars that move at the expence of people’s money got stuck in the ‘very bad’, very dust in sunny times and very muddy roads in rainy seasons.

The people of Butambala told our informers that most roads in their area had not been repaired for the last 25 years only Museveni going there for votes. Museveni had last been in Butambala during the bush war that brought him to power in 1986, according to some of the people we interviewed in Butambala.

There is a rumour inSomaliathat all East African Countries are most likely to ally againstUganda’s political aggression.
This comes at a time when theUSSecretary of State, Hilary Clinton recently confirmed when she was inSouth AfricathatUgandaandRwandawere aiding the M23 rebels fighting in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
So the East African countries have realised that there is need to tameUganda’s militaristic political heads. And this has already resulted into last week’s crash region security conference inKampala. All this brings us to a point that the suspected gun down of the threeUgandamilitary planes was a plot by some East African countries in alliance with the Al Shabaab.

“I usually don’t want to comment about the wrong stories written about myself (Col. Kiiza Besigye). But the one in last week’s Kamunye went over board,” Col. Kiiza Besigye has said.
He says that he had wanted to ignore it. His friends and political advisers called him yesterday evening asking him to tell them the truth if he collapsed last week while in Kasese as it was indicated in Kamunye newspaper.
Besigye says that even his FDC party officials have been asking the same. He can not count his supporters and fans. Col. Besigye says that he moved with his aide Harold Kaija as usual in his car from Kampala to Kasese, and they stayed in the same hotel, slept in opposite room, they would part after Mid Night dinner, they were moving together in the field. So if there was anything that happened to him, Kaija would be the first one to KNOW.
Besigye says that he did not have anything like flue. This was a story that he does not know the intentions of the author. The story in Kamunye had alleged that Besigye collapsed while in Kasese.

Many people are baffled by the way president Museveni has survived coup de dat in his over 26 years of reported despotic leadership. Museveni has been so luck over the years because even when many of his soldiers have reportedly killed innocent civilians, and people mobilize to oust him, he survives and rules again. President Museveni has narrowly survived a number of rebellions including the LRA, Force Obote Back, ADF and PRA rebels.

Recently our media team had a discussion with one of the senior political analysts in Statehouse and he told us that Museveni has survived having a coup de tat against him, chiefly because he sidelined right from the early days all the officers that were the right candidates for such a coup.

Some were slapped with false charges then blackmailed into pardon and given lousy assignments like diplomatic service and kept away from mainstream armed forces. He identified some of the sidelined officers as Col. Julius Chihanda, Maj. Gen. Matayo Kyaligonza, and Col. Ahmed Kashilingi among others.

After several filling stations in Uganda running out of fuel, Uganda’s minister for energy, Irene Muloni says Uganda has no capacity to store petrol that can last for two weeks.

Her statement has sent motorists and drivers into panic. The minister’s statement doesn’t show whether the oil shortage would be fixed soon.

She says that Uganda only stores fuel that last for not more than three days. Uganda gets oil supply from western Kenya. Much of the fuel Uganda uses is imported from Kenya.

But the minister’s statement has left many Ugandans baffled, wondering how former Ugandan president ‘Filed Martial, chancellor, Iddi Amin Dada, the conqueror of the British Empire’ who was scarcely educated could have thought of constructing fuel reserves and Museveni’s government that is administered by educated people  fails to build fuel reserves.

The treason case in which three leaders of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) are accused of participating in the Walk to Work protests was today extended for three weeks to allow the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Richard Buteera, examine their file.

The leaders being talked about are FDC’women leader Ingrid Turinawe, FDC youth leader Francis Mwijukye, and Col. Kiiza Besigye aide Sam Mugumya.

The trio appeared before the Nakawa Chief Magistrates Courttoday morning. The session was presided over by Justice Esta Nambayo for the mention of their case. The bail of the three accused persons was extended to February 13th, 2012.

These three opposition supporters were arrested last year over reportedly planning the walk-to-work protests, an act the Police Chief Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura said it was equivalent to treason.

Born again Christians across the country whose names don’t have meaning that praises God have chosen new names which have deep meaning in the Christian doctrine.

We have been informed that many born again Christians have dropped their meaningless traditional names in favour of names such as Divine, Mercy, Grace, Muwanguzi (winner) among others.

The head of the born again faith in Uganda, Pastor Joseph Serwadda says that their members have not changed their names today; the process has been going on for the last so many years.

Serwadda says that born again Christians don’t need the government to first allow them to change names. He says that in their faith a believer can drop a certain name and pick another of his/her choice.

Speaking to informers in Kampala today, Serwadda however explained that the born again Christians who need to change their names legally are free to go to the courts of law and do so.

The inspector General of Police Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura has explained to our informers why the police throughout last year blocked most of the demonstrations that were organised by opposition politicians and parties.

Kayihura says that the organisers of the demonstrations for example walk to work campaigns (A4C) in the first case did not comply with the 1995 Constitution of theRepublicofUganda. Kayihura says the police received solid intelligence evidence that most of the protests were designed to start on a peaceful note but later turn violent and cause bodily harm on the people who would have shunned the campaign.

The inspector general further says that the coordinator of walk to work protests for example, Masaka Municipality MP Mathias Mpuuga notified the Police late “considering the time required to prepare for such an event,” and that Mpuuga had concealed the A4C programme. Kayihura says that the concealment of the A4C agenda meant that the organisers of walk to work protests had ill intentions. Kayihura says that the Uganda Police under Article 212 has a duty to protect life and property, ensure law and order, prevent and detect crime.

Kayihura also says that the police drew lessons from previous experiences of the walk-to-work demonstrations among other protests which ended up in violent riots where roads were blocked, cars stoned and other property damaged as well as loss of lives.

The police boss further says that the organisers of walk to work protests did not indicate the specific location and times of their intended protests, in addition to obtaining clearance from the custodian of the premises they intended to use for their events.
