Kyambogo University Council has indefinitely suspended the University Vice Chancellor Isaiah Omolo Ndiege.

The decision was announced this afternoon by the council chairman Prof. John Okedi at a news conference.

The University council had earlier sent Ndiege on a two month forced leave to pave way for investigations into allegations of gross mismanagement of university affairs.

He had been scheduled to return to office early next month.

However, the lecturers have been threatening to put down their tools again if the report from the investigations cleared Ndiege, with many vowing not to work with him again.

The university council has now resolved asked Prof. Asibo Opuda the Deputy Vice Chancellor to continue working in acting capacity as the university vice chancellor.

Oak International Human Rights Fellowship: The Oak Institute for the Study of International Human Rights was established in 1998 by a generous grant from the Oak Foundation.

Each year, it hosts an Oak Human Rights Fellow to teach and conduct research while residing at the College.

The Institute organizes lectures and other events centered around the fellow’s area of expertise.

The purpose of the fellowship is to offer an opportunity for one prominent practitioner in international human rights to take a sabbatical leave from front-line work to spend the fall semester (September-December) in residence at Colby.

This provides the Fellow time for respite, reflection, research, and writing.

While all human rights practitioners are eligible, we especially encourage applications from those who are currently or were recently involved in “on-the-ground” work at some level of personal risk.

Following the period of the fellowship, the fellow is expected to return home to continue her/his human rights work.

The Oak Institute seeks one frontline human rights practitioner outside of the United States for residence at Colby.

Possible areas of human rights work on behalf of those incarcerated may include, but are not limited to:

  • living standards and health care in prisons, pretrial detention
  • illegal imprisonment
  • detained non-citizens
  • the right of legal representation
  • juvenile detention
  • education and practical training for inmates
  • post-detention rehabilitation
  • families of inmates
  • disciplinary procedures
  • prison privatization
  • gender and racial discrimination in incarceration
  • political prisoners, prisoners of war, torture, sexual abuse, brutality, and the death penalty.

Application Deadline: 15th December.

The Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister, Maj. Gen.Kahinda Otafire has reportedly started defending homosexuals; a practice looked as a taboo in Uganda.

Otafiire yesterday told a press conference in Kampala that the government should go slow on enacting a law that out laws homosexuality and lesbianism.

The minister says that he is aware that homosexuality is satanic, demonic, immoral and ungodly but enacting anti homosexual law would be difficult to implement.

Otafiire who is a lawyer told the press that even if the law against homosexuality is in place to prove in Court that a person is a homosexual is difficult. So he asked the religious leaders and traditional leaders and moralists not to develop pressure over the vice and leave the matter to God who will judge homosexuals on the judgment day.

Uganda’s leading and renowned scholar professor Mohmood Mamdani has said Ugandan opposition is too weak and it cannot takeover poor from the ruling government. The scholar says that for any meaningful change of government to take place inUgandathe people need to be willing to go on the streets in large numbers on a daily basis and demonstrate.

The professor however says this cannot happen because most Ugandans are after making money. He says that Ugandans, especially the middle class cannot leave their businesses and demonstrate on daily basis.

Mamdani also says thatUganda’s opposition cannot use protests to take over power because the sitting government doesn’t respect the right of people to protest and it is not resorting to dialogue.

Ugandapolice and other security organs many times use live bullets, tear gas and torture to break down protests. In the process many unarmed protesters have been shot dead and scores of others wounded.

You may not know, your close friends might not have told you, but president Museveni is secretly preparing someone to replace him when he retires from the presidency.

That someone is not even his blue eyed prime minister, Amama Mbabazi, Vice President Kiwanuka Sekandi, Foreign Affairs minister, Sam Kutesa or his blood brother Gen. Salim Saleh.

We have heard from Statehouse that president Museveni would like to copy a leave from the Democratic Republic of Congo and have his own biological son Col. Muhoozi to replace him.

When President Lawrent Kabila died, he was replaced by his biological son Joseph Kabila so one of the presidential aides at statehouse tells this journalist that even Museveni would wish his son to run the state after him. A source explains that this is why Museveni has kept Muhoozi out of scandals. A source says that originally Museveni wanted Amama Mbabazi to replace him but it seems his mind has now changed because all his attentions are now on Muhoozi.

A source further says that this is the reason why Muhoozi has started appearing at social scenes like at sports galas, beaches among others such that he sells himself well before the honourable voters.

So don’t get surprised when the next president of Uganda is Col. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Forget what the constitution provides that in case the president dies, goes mad or resigns his/her vice becomes interim president. But for security reasons we shall not tell you how Muhoozi will replace his dad Museveni as president.
