Uganda Electoral Commission

The Electoral commission will finalize the gazette of newly elected Members of Parliament by Tuesday next week. This was revealed by the minister of Justice and constitutional Affairs Kahinda Otafire while responding to the concerns of MPs of Kasese district that the electoral commission delayed to gazette them yet other MPs in other places were gazetted quickly though were voted much later than those in Kasese.

Otafire says that the results of all members of parliament will be made public by Tuesday, saying that the delay was caused by unforeseen circumstances. MPS especially from Kasese were worried that the electoral commission delayed to gazette them to give room to their opponents whom they had defeated to challenge their election in court.

The Member of Parliament for Aswa County in Gulu district Regan Okumu has asked parliament to divide the UPDF MPS into two groups while sitting in the chamber of the parliament.

Reaga Okumu, Chairman of the Committee

Okumu made the demand while contributing during the orientation of MPS on Rules of procedure at parliament.

He said that the five army mps should sit on the opposition side and others on the Nrm party side since they were accepted in parliament as listening posts are not supposed to belong to any party.

He said that it will be a bad image if the Army MPS on one side of parliament which is following the multiparty democracy.

The Member of Parliament for Kalungu West Gonzaga Sewungu said that the Army should be gazetted with the uniform they should dress while coming to parliament to avoid making MPS uncomfortable with a uniform they use some time while brutalizing the people during demonstration.

The Army has 10 MPS in parliament more than other special interest groups which have 5 MPS and others include Person living with Disability (PWDs), workers MPS, Youth MPS and district women MPS.
