Kamwenge District   may be at a higher risk to face the increased rate of malaria prevalence if serious attention is not paid to malaria prevention efforts.

Bazaaraki Vincent the records personnel medical department says the rate of malaria prevalence in Kamwenge in the month of June was at 53%.

Bazaaraki explains that of the16, 079 people who carried out diagnosis, only 2461 tested and half of the number was found malaria positive.

Dr. Ochen Gregory, the acting Kamwenge District Health Officer attributes the increase to climatic conditions and vegetation cover that favor the rapid multiplication of female anopheles mosquitoes in the District and low adaptation of control measures.

He however, says that control measure have been introduced including Rapid Diagnosis(RPD), distribution of mosquito nets in all sub counties , mass sensitization among others.

Ochen emphasizes the need for members’ public to always go for medical checkups early enough if the communities are to effectively treat malaria fever.

The Uganda Minister of State for Primary Heath, James Kakooza has indicated that malaria prevalence rates will reduce by 5 percent before the end of 2015.

The State Minister for Primary Health care, James Kakooza has indicated that his ministry will distribute about seven million mosquito nets to Uganda pregnant women and children under the age of five years across the country.

Kakooza has told journalists at Uganda Parliament that the ministry of Health has received a grant of about 17 million treated mosquito nets from Global Fund.

He says out of the 17 million mosquito nets, only seven million nets have been procured and will be distributed in the first Phase.

Kakooza says people in sub- counties where no mosquito nets have been distributed in the last 3 years and those that received mosquito nets which are likely to have expired will have first priority. He says regional balance will also be considered in the distribution of the nets.

The minister appealed to the media to help sensitize the public on the distribution of accelerated insecticide treated mosquito nets to ensure the reduction of malaria infection rates.

According to the Uganda ministry of health, malaria is the leading cause of death in Uganda mostly affecting pregnant women and children.
