Robert Sekitooleko threatens to sue UNEB’s Bukenya

The Nakifuma County Member of Parliament Eng. Robert Sekitooleko has threatened to sue the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Secretary General Mathew Bukenya over miss communication about his qualifications. Previously, Sekitooleko was disqualified from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries over lack of academic qualifications.

He says that Bukenya never bothered to call and find out his views about the missing academic credentials instead went straight to the media. Sekitooleko says Bukenya is to compensate all the damages he inflicted on him once he is defeated in court.

2014 UACE Results Released

Mr Matthew Bukenya the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) Executive Secretary has this morning released the 2014 Advanced Level results. During the press conference held in the Ministry of Education boardroom a number of figures were supplied highlighting a lower registration and exam completion rate from the previous year.

The reduced number of candidates in an increasing population is cause to worry; it also brings up the question of why this trend. Another worrisome point noted is the increased malpractice cases that have almost doubled from 2013’s 74 cases to 133. The Minister of Education Ms. Jessica Alupo who was present for the occassion asked for an investigation into the matter.

It was however noted that the 2014 candidates had a better performance than their 2013 counterparts.

Uganda National Examinations Board Releases A Level Senior Six Exams for 2010

The Minister of Education and Sports, Namirembe Bitamazire has appealed for all stakeholders to improve learning of science subjects at all levels of education.

Bitamazire received 2010 A level results from Bukenya

Bitamazire says the doing and passing of science subjects by many students is critical for the development of the country as science spurs development.

She was speaking Wednesday as the Ministry received the Uganda National Examinations Board for 2010 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results.

Bitamazi expressed concern that says although there was a slight 0.02% improvement from the previous, science subjects continue to be poorly done.

She says less than 20% of the 101,495 students who sat for A-level exams in 2010 did science subjects. Bitamazire revealed that the ministry has started a review of the science curriculum right from pre-primary to tertiary in a bid to fit with the growing global needs for science based innovation.

The results presented by UNEB Secretary Mathew Bukenya show that boys performed well in Economics, Physics and Chemistry, while girls did well in Literature and Divinity.

Bukenya reported that a total of 61,820 have qualified for places in tertiary institutions having managed to get two principal passes.

He says a total of 68 candidates have had their results withheld for further investigations for being in possession of an authorized notes and collusion in examination room.
