It seems opening law firms works to many politicians. The latest news reports from the office of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) indicates that their party president who is also former MP for Makindye East, Hon. Michael Mabikke has opened his own law firm in Kampala.

We have been told that Michael Mabikke’s law firm has been named KAM and company Advocates located on the 1st floor of Kisozi complex in Nakasero, Kampala Central Division.

The building houses many other firms including Bitangaro and Company Advocates and Mukiibi and Company Advocates. Mabikke’s first degree was in Social Science but when he joined the 7th and 8th Parliament he successfully studied law.

So whoever knows Michael Mabikke the social scientist don’t raise eyebrows when you read about council Mabikke. He is the one you know about!

We have heard that former Makindye East MP, Michael Mabikke has completely cut close ties with FDC because he is uncomfortable with the way FDC relates with other parties. To put it bluntly Mabikke is quitting the whole IPC coalition which brings together FDC, CP, Jeema and Suubi, a political pressure group.

A source in Mabikke’s party, the Social Democratic Party tell us that Mabikke is bitter because all members of opposition parties are being harassed by the ruling government but when FDC leaders go to human rights organisations, they report there that the government is harassing their supporters without specifying that even SDP supporters are harassed.

We hear that Mabikke wants SPD to start his own pressure on government such that he too can go to donors and tell them that his supporters are being persecuted like the way Col. Kiiza Besigye reportedly does to get donor funding.

When contacted Mabikke explained that SDP is an independent party and it is free to carry out its activities without leaning on FDC.

Unless he changes his mind and opts for presidential race as per his political ambitions, we can confirm that the former lord mayoral contestant, Michael Mabikke has kick started his 2016 campaigns as Lord Mayor of Kampala.

The calculative Mabikke is utilizing the political rivalry between Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and KCCA director Jenifer Musisi to tell the voters in Kampala how they missed him.

Mabikke is reportedly spending some reasonable time in Kampala every month launching projects aimed at driving poverty out of the Kampala residents.

Of course this is not good news to Erias Lukwago who is now engaging in administrative battles with Ms Musisi.

Reports are not yet clear whether Lukwago will seek re-election. But in case he does, Mabikke has stormed the ground much earlier than him.

In a letter written by the chairman, Free Uganda Now who also doubles as the president, UPC, Olara Otunu dated 2nd/June/2011 they say that they are not ready to accept all the guidelines which were set by police for them.

Uganda Police Spokesperson Judith Nabaakoba

The coordinator Free Uganda Now, Mike Mabike assures the press that come what may, they are ready to host their demo and grand rally on Thursday this week.

Police through their spokes person Judith Nabakooba yesterday issued guidelines which should be followed by the opposition on that day to foster law and order which the opposition are rejecting.

DP president general, Norbert Mao is castigates police for not following what is well spelt in the constitution and follow orders from above which are geared at protecting the sitting government.

Members of Political parties that form the Inter Party Cooperation have hit back at Michael Mabikke’s allegations that the IPC is a one man’s show.

Mabikke who is the President of the Social Democrats Parts, one of the four parties in the IPC told journalists yesterday that the since Dr. Kizza Besigye was elected as IPC flag bearer in the recently concluded Presidential elections, Besigye and his Forum for Demcoratic Change took over the IPC as if there are no other parties in the cooperation.

Michael Mabikke, President of SDP

Mabikke who is competing the Kampala Mayoral race as the flag bearer of IPCis has been complained that several IPC members including Besigye support his rival Erias Lukwako who is competing as an independent.

Mabikke says the IPC has no single plan or policy but runs of the decisions of Besigye and his Forum for Democratic Change, the major opposition party in Uganda.

But Asuman Basalirwa, the President of JEEMA, one of the parties in the IPC says Mabikke’s allegations are unfounded and unfortunate. He says all decisions in the IPC are reached at by consensus. Basalirwa says that the IPC decided all its member parties can take independent decisions on which IPC candidate to support since both Mabikke and Lukwago are members of IPC.

The Deputy Spokesperson of the FDC, Toterebuka Bamwenda says Mabikke’s assertions are not accurate since Mabikke last year served as the chairman of the IPC and participated in decisions.

This follows a petition by Capt. Francis Babu, the vice chairperson for NRN central region and former Kampala Central MP who is interested in the same post.

He accuses the NRM for not following the right procures of primary party elections as it is laid out in the party’s constitution.

The interim Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, Dr. Elijah Mushemeza announced on Tuesday that Peter Sematimba will be the NRM flag bearer for the election of the Lord Mayor for Kampala City.

The government’s Kampala City Bill was passed by Parliament yesterday with amendments allowing universal adult suffrage voting for the position of the Lord Mayor of Kampala city.

Two other opposition candidates, Elias Lukwago, the current MP for Kampala Central, and Michael Mabikke, the current Mp for Makindye East have expressed interest in the post of Mayor of Kampala.

The Social Democratic Party has today joined the Inter party Coalition, a group of leading opposition political parties aimed at giving a joint challenge to President Yoweri Museveni’s National Resistance Movement in the 2011 general elections.

Michael Mabikke, SDP President

SDP President Michael Mabikke who is the MP for Makindye East said his party had decided to support a joint opposition effort in order to a have a better chance of uprooting the current regime.

The President of Uganda People’s Congress, Dr. Olara Otunu, Forum for Democratic Change Vice President, Salaam Musumba, Conservative party president Ken Lukyamuzi and JEEMA President Asuman Basalirwa witnessed the function today where Mabikke signed to work with the Inter party Coalition.

He said his party will mobiles for the Inter party Coalition and campaign for joint opposition candidates in the forth coming Uganda elections.

This leaves his parent party, the Democratic party as the only key opposition party yet to join the Inter party coalition. DP President General vowed on the weekend the DP will not join the opposition coalition which he says is a ploy to put all other parties under the FDC.

But UPC’s Olara Otunu today appealed to Mao to join the opposition coalition arguing that all opposition parties currently need each other to put up a real challenge to the current National Resistance Movement government.

Another breakaway faction of the Democratic Party led by Dr. Lulume Bayiga also recently announced it is will support the Inter party coalition, making Mao more politically isolated as he prepares for his biggest political career events.
