The ministry of Lands and Environment organised a pre NEMA day in Luzira in one of the wetlands that had been reclaimed by the so called investors. This area measuring approximately 50 acres had been reclaimed by the investors destroying all the natural vegetation and the Lake Victoria breathing point and this was very visible by the colour of the waters at the shores of Lake Victoria in Luzira.

However, the Lands and Environment minister, Miria Mutagamba acknowledges that as an individual she has nothing to do because these investors claim to be having ‘orders’ from above. She was questioning what she should do for the environment if people are receiving orders from above to destroy it.

However she promised to work hand in hand with the local communities and the ministry of lands to stop giving land tittles to areas located in wetlands.

Justice Kanyeihamba wants government to honour late Kayiira

Justice G. W Kanyeihamba has today barred the secrets on the crevasse of his mind. Justice Kanyeihamba says that the government should recognize Late Andrew Kayiira (he was a military man and a member of the Democratic Party) for his work in the liberation struggle.

While he was moving out from Mr. Frank Gashumba’s Awaken Uganda seminar at Hotel Fairway in Kampala yesterday, Kanyeihamba said that if it was not late Kayiira president Museveni and his NRA rebels would not have won the war against the now defunct UPC government.

Justice Kanyeihamba was the guest of honour at Gashumnba’s Awaken Uganda seminar. Other guests included former ethics minister, Miria Matembe. The seminar was not political but most of the speakers sounded so political.

Kanyeihamba says that He and Andrew Kayiira escaped death while coming from the famous Moshi Conference in Tanzania. The Kenyan government had wanted to hand them to late president, Idi Amin. He says that it was that meeting where Kayiira was the biggest facilitated that partly contributed to President’s Museveni success in military struggle.

It seems the youths across the country are full of smiles since the government has announced that they can access low interest loans from banks starting by next week.

The government has put a side 25 billion shillings for the youth to borrow. The minister for finance, Miria Kiwanuka says that the youths can access this money from DFCU bank, Stanbic Bank and Centenary Bank among other commercial banks inUganda.

Addressing journalists inKampalatoday, Ms Kiwanuka said that the interest rate of 15 per cent will be charged per youth loan acquired.

She says that the interest rate will remain unchanged for the period of six months running. Ms Kiwanuka says that the loan will be available for only first time borrowers and it will be paid back within four years with a grace period of one year. The youths’ category to access the loans must be aged between 18-30 years old and they can borrow up to five million shillings.

All is not well in the ministry of foreign affairs and that of the finance as far as quarterly finance releases are concerned.

Spies have learnt that yesterday the minister of finance, Miria Kiwanuka went into hiding when she noticed that a team from the ministry of foreign affairs had visited her office over the quarterly releases. It is said that the foreign affairs ministry officials have been on the neck of Kiwanuka over the money.

Realizing that  the foreign affairs ministry officials had gone to get an answer why their ministry had not got the money for the last three months, Kiwanuka reportedly asked the receptionist to tell her visitors that she was out of office yet she was around.

A source in the finance ministry told this snoop that currently there is no money for the ministry of foreign affairs. It explained that the ministry was given money in the last three months but it was not enough to run all the foreign affairs ministry activities.
