Government has warned the opposition against going ahead with their intended planned parallel swearing in ceremony of another person as president contrary to the law.

Addressing journalists at Uganda media Center, security minister Amama Mbabazi who is also NRM secretary general says security is only aware of one swearing in for president Museveni which will be in Kololo on Thursday.

He says the state of Uganda is only governed by one president and therefore no other person will be sworn in as president of Uganda, but however says those whom he termed as presidents of news papers and civil society are free to swear in.

Mbabazi assured people who will attend the ceremony that their security is guaranteed and warned those planning to cause lawlessness that the law enforcement bodies will do their job against them.

Asked whether government will allow Besigye who returns tomorrow to walk from Entebbe to his home, Mbabazi says the FDC leader is free to walk as long as he does it in accordance with the law.

President Yoweri Museveni also reiterated at a press conference in Rwakitura, that the opposition cannot and should not organize anything to disrupt the swearing of an elected President.

Preparations for swearing in ceremony of Members of the 9th Parliament have kicked off at parliament. The newly elected MPs have started receiving invitation cards for the ceremony which will last for three days starting May 16th -18th 2011.

Parliament of Uganda

The deputy spokes person of parliament Jotham Taremwa says that because of lack of space to accommodate people, MPs have been directed to come with only 5 people to witness their respective swearing in ceremony.

He also assured the public that parliamentary chambers will be enough to accommodate all the MPs. This follows earlier concerns that the chambers may be small since the number of mps increased.

About 374 mps will be sworn in for the 9th parliament leaving one position pending since people from one constituency of Zombo have not had their elections.

The MPs for the new Parliament will swear in after President Yoweri Museveni swears in for another 5-year term on May 12th.
