The government of Iran is preparing to open the first art of the Muslim Women Centre in Uganda’s capital city, Kampala come 8^th Friday Marc 2013 during the celebrations of the International Women’s Day. Sources told us that Iran will secretly fund the activities of the centre through Uganda Muslim Women Vision.

Impeccable sources told us that Iran is dedicated to development of Muslim projects, plans and activities and empowerment of Muslim women and the girl child in Uganda and Africa at large.

Invitation to the official opening of Muslim women center is circulating to Muslim leaders and some key opposition politicians.

The function will run under the theme “Gender Agenda Gaining Momentum; Skilling the Nation”. According to the sources privy to the information, the activity of the Iran sponsored event will start at 10.00am to 2.00pm in Bweyogerere, Kampala. The chief guest will be Prince Al-Hajj Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu.

The Chairman of the Muslim parliamentary council Hood Katuramu says the process of passing the law is on course giving assurance that it will soon be out.

He adds that government has readily accepted this law and it will be passed soon

This comes after several Muslims have come out protesting the delay of its passing.

This law will be instrumental in solving marriage disputes and issues  of inheritance .

Initially a domestic relations bill had been tabled regarding the same issues but was rejected by Muslim leaders citing some injustices.

Recently president Museveni constituted a nine member committee headed by Prof. Tarsisis Kabwegyere to forge a way forward in regard to resolve wrangles associated with Muslim leadership!

This is not the first time the president is making an attempt to-unite Muslims inUganda. In 1993, he tried a similar move, when a Muslim unity conference was convened in Mbarara under the stewardship of prof. G.W. Kanyeihamba!

That time, delegates to the conference included prominent personalities from the Muslim world! At the end of it all, the Muslims elected an interim administration and while most people believed that progress had been made, the president made a turn around and disowned the interim mufti-elect!

Also some people have never forgiven him for obvious reasons)! Question: Can Muslims expect tangible results from Kabwegyere’s committee? Will the president honour the outcome at the end of the process?

New MP for Butambala County, Muwanga Kivumbi was sworn in on Thursday as MP by parliament speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

Hon. Kivumbi was accompanied by a host of opposition MPs and soon after taking his oath he vowed to defend Buganda kingdom and Democratic Party interests in Parliament.

Muwanga, a staunch Muslim says that now Muslims have a reason to smile as he is going to represent well their issues and they will share the National cake since he is representing the Muslim enclave of Butambala which he described as the Uganda’s Muslim Mecca. Muwanga later hosted his guest at City Hall where he thanked voters for sending him to parliament. Among his guests included Forum for Democratic Chage’s (FDC) party president, Col. Kiiza Besigye.

Information that has clocked in our news desk has it that the central government of Uganda has closed a Muslim school over its reported primitiveness and outdated behaviour.

The Bugiri resident district commissioner (in Eastern Uganda), Margaret Mwanamoiza explains that said the closure of Tawheed Islamia in Mayuge village, Budhaya sub-county follows numerous complaints from the public about suspicious activities at the School.

Ms Mwanamoiza says that the proprietors of the school, who are members of the salaf Muslim sect, had been advised by president Museveni’s government to teach other subjects as well but the school administrators failed to respond.

But why some Muslim schools in Uganda have not yet adjusted to both religious and worldly studies? This is too abnormal, and perhaps this is why Islam has been left behind in some African countries.

Many of us have been observing Muslims from the so-called Traditional Muslims Schools in Uganda (e.g. Kibuli Muslim Secondary School, Gombe Muslim Secondary School and Kawempe Muslim Secondary School etc) who are not mindful of the Muslim religion faith.

Many people have seen good Muslim girls and boys who later turn into Christians (born again Christians), Rastas and or join other un-Islamic groups when they get to universities or they grow old.

The Supreme Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Zubair Kayongo thinks the cause of this trend is ignorance of some Muslim youth about Islam.

He says that much as some Muslim school environment can maintain the faith of the Muslim students, it does not prepare them for the outer environment in which these students will live when they grow old.

So once these Muslim students are out of schools, they are bombarded with a lot of information- which they can not comprehend given their narrow understanding of Islam.

It is because of this that many Muslim students are overwhelmed and end up either compromising their religion or getting annihilated into other beliefs especially born again Christian faith.

President Museveni’s government stand on the killing of innocent Muslim leaders in Uganda is interesting.

Museveni says that those Muslim leaders killed are alleged to be members of the outfit run by Jamiil Mukulu.

According to Museveni, it is Mukulu’s agents in Uganda who are killing Muslim leaders for selling out his rebel secrets to Museveni and seeking amnesty.

Museveni denies that it is actually his government agents, police, ESO, ISO etc who are killing innocent Muslim leaders over their alleged connections to Jamil Mukulu.

However some Muslim leaders told us that even if Museveni pardoned the Sheikhs he does not trust them.

The Muslim leaders being killed allege that they may have asked for pardon but in the minds of people in Museveni’s government they are still suspects hence the decision to kill them.

Last week I received a two
worded text message from our reporters who are Born Again Christians. It was about Muslims fighting in the middle of Juma prayers.  I looked at it and went on with what I was doing.

After a few minutes, the new reporters arrived with a video containing the content that had been sent to me in the text. Truly the Muslims had fought in the middle of Juma prayers at Bukoto Sect Mosque Headquarters in
Uganda’s capital city,Kampala.

The narration of the events that happened in the middle of the Muslim prayers showed that the leaders of the Muslim community inUgandaneed to do serious soul searching. How can knowledgeable Muslims start a fight in the middle of Khutubah (Juma prayers) and injure themselves.

 We think our Muslim brothers and sisters need to find better ways to address their problems-Insha Allah.

The serial killers in Uganda currently are targeting Muslim businessmen and clerics and they have killed many Muslims when victims cannot fight back, which is so wrong in natural justice.

Muzaata says that the government or the inspector general of police, Lt. Gen. Kayihura is giving the criminals/serial killers a monopoly on the means of violence because ordinary citizens in Uganda are not allowed to hold guns.

The suspected serial killers have shot dead several Muslim business persons and sheikhs in Uganda including Sheikh Yunus and Sheikh Sekimpi.

But in Uganda the people the government allows to possess guns are soldiers, policemen and senior government supporters.

Uganda is also one of the countries in the world with real tragedies of gun ownership that the government may be afraid to run amok: they include accidental shootings, cross fires and crimes of passion, but Sheikh Muzaata says that if the government cannot protect Muslim leaders by providing them with enough security then it needs to allow them to protect themselves.

Muzaata says that if criminals are using guns to shoot at the Muslim clerics and businessmen then the attacked persons should be in position to shoot back at them. “No messing a chance if someone is shooting at the clerics, they should be in position to shoot back to protect themselves. Yes, an eye for an eye is not good as it means all of us will end up being blind, but it looks like the clerics have been left in the tigers den on their own- no protection at all,” he says.

Muslims around Uganda want to demonstrate against the murders of Muslim clerics supporting the breakaway Muslim faction. The leaders of the Muslim communities say they want to organize demonstrations in Uganda because this is the only weapon the people of Uganda have got at the moment.

“Somebody in Museveni’s government is killing us,” says one of the top Muslim leaders who requested not to be named in this news report for fear of being persecuted by the government.

 The cleric said that today the killers killed Sheikh Sentamu, Imamu Yunus in busoga and Sheikh Sekimpi but tomorrow they may target Prince Kasimu Nakibinge, supreme Mufti Sheikh Zubair Kayongo and Imam Kasozi etc.

No police report, not even a preliminary briefing has been issued in the matter of Ssentamu’s murder/assassination.

Prince Kassim Nakibinge tasked the inspector general of police, Kale Kayihura for a timely explanation over the death of Muslim leaders. During Sunday’s Eid Prayers, there were mainly two issues: the assassination of Muslim leaders/influential personalities and the Marginalization of Muslims in Uganda. It was also said that Sheikh Ssekimpi who died of ‘natural causes’ could have died of induced hypertension, which can be result by a certain type of chemical reaction.

Sheikh Yunus was a Salafi Sheikh who was taught by the late Ssentamu until they became colleagues and he had maintained the Masjid where he was Imaam until his assassination the day before Eid El Fitr.

Muslims in Ethiopia have been demonstrating against the injustices on them and the issue was picked by the world media.
