His excellence Kibaki also applauded the youth studying at Makerere University for making the electric car, the KIIRA EV.

He challenged the Youth in Kenya, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo and Botswana among other African countries to motivate Makerere Students.

Kibaki challenged the youth in Africa to emulate their counterparts in Europe and US by engaging deeply in scientific studies.

On Tuesday January 24^th 2012MakerereUniversity concluded its 62nd Graduation Ceremony with the award of an Honorary Doctorate of Laws to Kibaki. Although many freedom fighters and advocates in African consider Kibaki as a benevolent dictator,MakerereUniversity awarded him a doctorate of laws in recognition of his distinguished and outstanding contribution to public service at the national, regional and international levels – especially in the areas of Academic Excellence, Political, Social and Economic reforms.

 The ceremony where Kibaki received the award was attended by President Yoweri Museveni ofUganda, whom also some human rights activists call a dictator.

 The university leadership applauded Kibaki for what it called his exemplary leadership inKenya. Before Kibaki became president, he worked as a bus conductor for the defunct Othaya Bus Service Company in Kenya and he later joined the Makerere College (now Makerere University) – where he got a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics, History and Political Science.

 Kibaki got a first class Bachelor of Arts degree ofMakerereUniversityin 1955. He was elected the Vice Chairman of the Makerere Students Guild (1954-1955). FromMakerereUniversityhe enrolled at the London School of Economics for a Bachelor of Science in Public Finance, and graduated with distinction in 1958.

President Mwai Kibaki of Kernya has addressed members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) inKampalatoday.

While addressing EALA members, President Kibaki called for economic diversification among the community member states ofRwanda,Kenya,Uganda,BurundiandTanzania.

Kibaki is the chairperson of the East African Community Heads of State Summit and he said that EAC member states need to embrace a lot of issues forEast Africato succeed in development.

He says EAC member states need to embrace tourism, improve Information Communication Technology, infrastructure, agriculture and economic diversification among others.

Kibaki also noted that the ordinary citizens in the EAC have not yet seen the importance of the East African Community integration.

Addressing Members of the East African Legislative Assembly at their fifth meeting in Kampala, the Uganda President warned that economic integration alone can create disequilibrium with countries not reaping equal benefits.

He told the legislators  that to consolidate integration there should be political integration as well saying a common market alone can create injustice by making some partner states markets for the others

President Museveni who hailed the reassembling of the East African Community in 1993 noted that the community cannot be complete without South Sudan and Congo.

“The East African region was a trading area long before the British colonialists. By reviving the community we are fulfilling our historical trade links”, he told MPs.

The Ugandan President confirmed that Uganda had tremendously benefitted from reintegration with export earnings shooting from 282 million dollars to 8 billion dollars.

Rt.Hon. Kadaga Rebecca the Speaker of the Uganda Parliament in her address noted the need to operationalize articles in the treaty for the establishment of the East African Community to enable the region attain political federation.

She hailed the East African Parliament for establishing itself as a strong effective regional legislature.

Kenyan President H.E.Mwai Kibaki is scheduled to address the East African Assembly at the Uganda Parliament Chambers Wednesday morning.

The university decided to honour President Kibaki on December 8^th last year in recognition of his contribution to public service at national, regional and international levels. However many people in East Africa say Kibaki was not fit to get the honours from a highly recognised university in Africa due to his reported despotic leadership.
