Government has put Parliament on notice to introduce the National Health Insurance Bill within the next four months.
The bill is aimed at regulating the operation of the health insurance scheme in the country.
This was disclosed on Wednesday by the Minister of State for Primary Health Care, Dr.Joyce Moriku while informing Parliament the progress of the National Insurance scheme.

“I am glad to inform you that the long awaited National Health Insurance Bill will be presented to you with the nxet four months so that you may discuss it. This has been long over due but i believe once the programme roles out, we shall work towards ensuring that Ugandans get the best medical services that they deserve through this scheme,” she said.

She said that the draft bill of the National health insurance bill shall be tabled before Parliament in November this year.

Moriku said that the bill shall provide for compulsory registration for health insurance in Uganda and every person who is a resident will be registered for the health insurance for any of the insurance scheme.

She revealed that the new bill will also provide for option for private commercial health insurance scheme for the informal sector.
