]]> Government tabled 39 new constituencies before parliament seeking for approval. The new counties have been read to parliament by the Minister of local Government, Adolf Mwesige. The deputy speaker Jacob Oulanyah referred the motion for the new counties to the committee of public service for scrutiny and report to parliament in one week. The proposed counties are intended to take effect from 1st July this year .

MPS are questioning the criteria the minister used by cabinet to create the proposed counties, saying that among the created counties some have few numbers of people compared to some areas which were not considered.

The Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda said that cabinet is still studying the issue of the creation of new municipalities and at a right time government will inform parliament the progress.
