The acting commissioner for lands and surveys, Ebunyu Wilson Ogaro, has assured the public that soon the issuance of double land tittles on private land and also in forests and wetlands will become history if the process of digitalizing  land tittles is completed in five years from now.

The Commissioner has attributed this problem to the use of an analogue method of land title records which he says are easily manipulated by some staff in the lands ministry.

He explained that it’s not a deliberate move by the Ministry of Lands to issue land titles in forests as is portrayed and pledged that the ministry of lands has begun cancelling land tittles obtained in wetlands and forest reserves though he has remained tight lipped on whether the land tittle for Bugoma forest which has been given to Bunyoro Kingdom had been cancelled or not.

However the NFA spokesperson, Gilder Kadilo, says that there is need for the Ministry of Lands to set short term measures to curb titling of land in the forest sector as the longer process of digitalization of the paper Land tittles continues.
