Many people inUgandawant to register new political parties but they are still not aware of the steeps needed to be undertaken to register a political party. So today we have decided to bring you the necessary steps needed to be executed to register a political party in Uganda.

The following are the steps: One needs to make a formal request in writing to the Electoral Commission expressing intention to register a political party.

The request should clearly indicate the Name of the new political party one wants to register, symbol, slogans and colours of the Political Party or political organisation.

The application forms for registering a political party must be obtained from the Electoral Commission. The applicants must also obtain from the Electoral Commission a Declaration of Assets and Liabilities and Particulars of the Political Party or Organization.

The application form must be returned to the commission when dully filled by the Applicant and endorsed by a Commissioner for Oaths. The copies of the party constitution must also be produced to the commission together with proof of payment of Deed fee. The applicants must further submit a list of the full names and addresses of at least 50 members of the new party/organization to be registered.

On receipt of the application the Commission will then embark on the registration process and cause independent inquiries to ascertain the correctness of the particulars submitted. The Electoral Commission registers new political parties within six months.

Uganda’s most feared army general; David Tinyefuza has denounced the name ‘Tinyefuza’ and adopted the name ‘Sejusa.’ So with effect from today Gen. David Tinyefunza will be called Gen. David Sejusa. Sejusa is a Luganda word that means ‘I don’t regret.’ Some sections of Ugandans allege that the general has adopted the name because of his past acts in a military which most people refer to as cruel and inhuman.

Tinyefuza adopted the name Sejusa on February 17th this year according to a deed poll the general signed last week before a Commissioner for Oaths.  According to the deed poll, the general will be addressed as ‘DAVID SEJUSA’  at all times, by all persons, in records, dealings, transactions, instruments and otherwise whatsoever.

Gen. David Sejusa was born on November 13, 1954 in Sembabule District and he holds a Masters of Law Degree from Makerere University.

The incoming woman MP for Luweero district, Brenda Nabukenya will take oath of allegiance on Tuesday next week. The ceremony will be presided over by the Clerk to Parliament, who will work hand in hand with the speaker of Uganda Parliament, Ms Rebecca Kadaga.

Article 81 (4-5) of the Constitution requires every person elected to parliament of Uganda to take oath of allegiance and the oath of Member of Parliament before assuming office.

Uganda laws further provide that no person shall sit or vote in Parliament before taking and subscribing the oaths. Brenda Nabukenya, who is a member of the Democratic Party, will take oath at 10:00am and she is only allowed to come along with only five people.

Nabukenya was elected MP during the recently concluded Luweero district woman MP by elections in which Ms Rebecca Nalwanga, of the ruling National Resistance Movement lost her reelection bid. The seat fell vacant after the High Court nullified the election victory of Nalwanga citing voter bribery.
