The Minister of Finance Maria Kiwanuka says the financial scandal in the Prime Minister’s Office provides an opportunity to clean up the system.

Kiwanuka was today appearing before the Finance Committee of Parliament to explain the ministry’s role and action taken to ensure accountability.

She says that this challenge is not unique to Uganda and the government can draw lessons from other countries on how to address this mess.

Kiwanuka acknowledged the need to improve transparency at the ministry of finance to avoid further loss of public funds;

Commonwealth Foundation Grants: The Foundation’s responsive grants enable people from developing Commonwealth countries to participate in activities such as short training courses, workshops, seminars, conferences, cultural festivals, exchanges and study visits in other Commonwealth countries.

In particular, the Foundation targets activities that strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations in areas of work that overlap with the Foundation’s three programme areas: Governance and Democracy; Sustainable Development; and Culture and Diversity.

All grant applications must relate to the Foundation’s mission and priority areas of interest.

The standard application form should be completed by all grant applicants.

Rotary World Peace Fellowship: Rotary Centers provide Rotary World Peace Fellows with the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in conflict resolution, peace studies, international relations and related areas.

Each year, up to 100 Rotary World Peace Fellowships are offered on a competitive basis at six Rotary Centers, which operate in partnership with seven leading universities.

Applicants must be “commited to peace” and have at least three years of experience in their field.

The fellows are chosen from countries and cultures around the globe based on their potential as leaders in government, business, education, media and other professional areas.

Rotary Club membership is not required.

Applicants for the program must secure an endorsement from their local Rotary Club before July 1 every year.

Women Human Rights Grants support and strengthen women’s right groups based outside the United States by providing small, flexible, and timely grants ranging from $500 to $20,000 for operating and program expenses.

Global Fund for Women values local expertise and believe that women themselves know best how to determine their needs and propose solutions for lasting change.

Who the Global Fund supports

  • Organizations that demonstrate a clear commitment to women’s
  • equality and women’s human rights.

Who the Global Fund does NOT support

  • Individuals and Scholarships

IFUW International Awards: The International Federation of University Women offers a limited number of international fellowships and grants to women graduates for postgraduate research, study and training.

A small number of awards may be available for Masters’ level studies.

Most of the awards are intended for the second and subsequent years of a doctoral programme and for post-doctoral studies. First year doctoral students do not qualify.

Students in any branch of learning may apply; however, priority is given to proposals related to IFUW priorities which include the improvement of the status of women and girls or women and promotion of women in scientific and technological careers. (See IFUW website for other priority areas).

The awards may be used in any country other than the one in which the applicant was educated or habitually resides.

Preference is given to women whose work will be carried out in a countries other than their home countries or the ones in which they received their previous education.

Normally 16 to 25 fellowships and grants are offered in each competition. Fellowships are the equivalent of 8,000 to 10,000 Swiss francs.

Grants are from 3,000 to 6,000 Swiss francs.

Deadline: The deadline varies by country, but normally falls between September and mid-October.
