Working to Advance African Women Foundation Scholarship: Working to Advance African Women (WAAW) foundation scholarship program offers $500/year for need-based female African students admitted to a University, College or institute of higher learning in Africa.

These scholarships for women in Africa are renewable annually, following proof of the student’s continued academic performance. Scholarships application deadline is December every year.

Scholarship Application Eligibility Criteria:

Female students of African origin, who have gained admission to an institution of higher learning in Africa.

  • Able to demonstrate financial need.
  • Excellent academic record.

Special consideration will also be given to underprivileged students, orphans and children of widows, students in the first or second year of study, and students admitted to engineering, math, technology and science based programs.

Your application package must include the following:

  • Application form (download in PDF format).
  • Curriculum vita or resume.
  • A 1-2 page essay on your future career goals and how you expect the Working to Advance African Women (WAAW) foundation scholarship will assist in fulfilling those goals.
  • Two letters of recommendation, preferably from academic mentors/advisors.
  • Current University transcrips, if applicable.

Please complete all sections of the application form and submit all required materials to WAAW foundation.

Completed application forms and supporting documents should preferably be submitted electronically (with subject heading: Scholarship).

Application deadline: December every year.

International Leader of Tomorrow Award: The University of British Columbia (UBC) attracts talented secondary and post-secondary students from around the world.

The International Leader of Tomorrow Award assist outstanding international students who do not have the economic means to study at the post-secondary level. The awards range in value from $14,000 to $34,000 (CAD), depending on financial need.

To date, students from 45 different countries have studied at UBC as International Leader of Tomorrow award winners.

To be eligible, you must be a non-Canadian, studying on a study permit, and enrolling in a UBC undergraduate program.

In addition, you must demonstrate an exceptional level of scholastic achievement, extracurricular achievement, and leadership ability.

Finally, you must also demonstrate that you would not be able to attend the University of British Columbia (UBC) without receiving the award.

If you’re interested in applying for this award, talk to your counsellor first, as they must nominate you.

Your counsellor can request a nomination package. The Nomination packages are not sent directly to students. E-mail: international.counsellors [at] ubc.ca

The Newton International Fellowship scheme will select the very best early stage post-doctoral researchers from all over the world, and offer support for two years at UK research institutions.

The long-term aim of the scheme is to build a global pool of research leaders and encourage long-term international collaboration with the UK.

The Newton International Fellowships scheme is run by The British Academy, The Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society.

The Fellowships cover the broad range of natural and social sciences, engineering and the humanities.

They provide grants of £24,000 per annum to cover subsistence and £8,000 to cover research expenses, plus a one-off relocation allowance of £2,000.

As part of the scheme, all Newton Fellows who remain in research will be granted a 10 year follow-up funding package worth £6,000 per annum.
