As most developed countries struggle to have a say in Africa, the government of Japan has given a grant of US$14M to Uganda. The Uganda minister for Finance, Maria Kiwanuka says that the money would be used to promote the resettlement of Internally Displaced People in Uganda.

She says that the money would be used to establish boreholes, build 121 classrooms in 37 schools, 65 teachers houses, 24 boreholes, 73km of road surfacing, 29 culverts, four hospital wards and 97 toilets and support women activities among others.

We have also learnt that the money is to be used in five districts of Acholi sub region namely Gulu, Kitgum, Pader, Lamwo and Agago. Ms Kiwanuka signed on behalf of Uganda while Kazuo Minagawa, ambassador of Japan to Uganda signed on behalf of the Japanese government.

The signing was attended by Hoshi Hirogumi, the special representative Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and journalists.

  A formerUSmarine soldier, Nix Bongomin who was arrested by Uganda Peoples Defence Forces yesterday in northernUgandaover recruiting rebels into the ‘Peoples Patriotic Front’ has denied the charges. He has told UPDF detectives in Pader today that theUgandasoldiers picked him on Monday under pretext that he was a rebel. Bongomin says that he is a law abiding citizen who can not engage in rebel activities.

 But the UPDF 5th division Army spokesman, Ceaser Olweny confirms that Bongomin has been recruiting people to join rebel activities and the evidence to prove this is already in the army hands. The army spokesman says that Bongomin was arrested from a village called Lacili in LakulSubCountyin Pader district with a pistol and 30 rounds of ammunition after he sneaked into Ugandafrom the Democratic Republic of Congo. Other intelligence reports indicate that Bongomin sneaked into Ugandafrom NairobiKenyaon January 3rd this year.

 Bongomin has been on the wanted list Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces 2007. Bongomin served in American marine and retired in 2003. He later joined LRA fighters between 2006 and 2007 and broke away after the LRA leader Joseph Kony plotted to kill him.
