The prime Minister of Uganda, Prof. Apollo Nsibambi has asked called for tough measures against non-governmental organizations that fail to account for government and donor funds.

Nsibambi was speaking on Monday during the 3rd review meeting of the Peace Recovering and Development Programme taking place at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

The report presented by the official implementers of the PRDP project detailed that several NGOs who received funds to implement some programs of the project have not accounted for the funds.

Nsibambi said that the ministry of Internal Affairs should investigate and list all such NGOs that fail to account for government and donor funds, and ask them to show cause why they should not be deregistered.  He said all those who receive funds should show where and how they spend, including their targeted output so that development can be achieved in northern Uganda.

The Prime Minister also launched the 2nd phase of the PRDP , which he said will benefit 55 districts of Uganda through different development programmes.

Northern Uganda is recovering from the insurgency that it suffered for over 25 years and the government of Uganda is working with donors and civil society organizations under the Peace, recovery and Development plan to bring about resettlement and development in the area.
