Members of Political parties that form the Inter Party Cooperation have hit back at Michael Mabikke’s allegations that the IPC is a one man’s show.

Mabikke who is the President of the Social Democrats Parts, one of the four parties in the IPC told journalists yesterday that the since Dr. Kizza Besigye was elected as IPC flag bearer in the recently concluded Presidential elections, Besigye and his Forum for Demcoratic Change took over the IPC as if there are no other parties in the cooperation.

Michael Mabikke, President of SDP

Mabikke who is competing the Kampala Mayoral race as the flag bearer of IPCis has been complained that several IPC members including Besigye support his rival Erias Lukwako who is competing as an independent.

Mabikke says the IPC has no single plan or policy but runs of the decisions of Besigye and his Forum for Democratic Change, the major opposition party in Uganda.

But Asuman Basalirwa, the President of JEEMA, one of the parties in the IPC says Mabikke’s allegations are unfounded and unfortunate. He says all decisions in the IPC are reached at by consensus. Basalirwa says that the IPC decided all its member parties can take independent decisions on which IPC candidate to support since both Mabikke and Lukwago are members of IPC.

The Deputy Spokesperson of the FDC, Toterebuka Bamwenda says Mabikke’s assertions are not accurate since Mabikke last year served as the chairman of the IPC and participated in decisions.

Political understanding between Ssuubi and Inter-Party Cooperation (IPC) is becoming more confusing by the day.

Basing on current news stories, some groups within IPC are not connected at all. Take, for example, the story in the newspapers on January 14, 2011 in which it was reported that Social Democratic Party’s Michael Mabikke refused to hand over to Ssuubi.

It was later reported on January 18, 2011 that Mabikke had handed over to Conservative Party’s John Ken Lukyamuzi.

IPC and Ssuubi have not only exhibited disagreements between them but have also put forward differing positions like on issues related to the Electoral Commission. This shows how un-serious these two groups, which I was ounce proud of, are. It now seems that the public is looking at our party as being incapable.

I believe from the way things are now moving in IPC, my party is likely to collapse without achieving its intended objectives of coming together to dislodge the current ruling party.

As a concerned member of the party who wants to see the party winning come February and achieve its main aim, I would like to advise the heads of IPC to call for unity and start focusing on how to win rather than arguing against and fighting fellow political brothers-in-arms as is now the case with Mabikke and Lukwago.
