Postgraduate Scholarships in France: From year to year, the French Embassy in Kenya strengthens its scholarship attribution policy. Around 10 scholarships are allocated annually.

These scholarships are mainly intended for postgraduates who are already engaged in a professional activity and want to develop their academic qualifications in agreement with their employer and with the support of French scientific networks.

Sandwich Doctoral Scholarship

The scholarship finances 3 stays of 3 months each in France, and a fourth stay of a couple of weeks intended for the defence, over a 3 to 4 year period.

Acceptances of the following stays are subject to achievement of scientific targets set by the scholarship holder in collaboration with his/her supervisor.

The scholarships cover travel and living expenses, registration fees in the university and health insurance.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:

• Kenyan citizen
• A master’s degree holder

• Employer’s agreement or financial plan about the doctoral training
• Age limit: 45 years for staff of higher education and research institutions; 30 years for students.

Master Scholarship:

DAAD Scholarship Programme: DAAD Scholarship Programmes have benefited hundreds of African students since inception.

The scholarships are given each year to postgraduate students wishing to study for a master‘s or PhD degree.

Trust Africa Scholarships: Loughborough University is delighted to announce full-fee scholarships for international full-time taught postgraduate students currently domiciled (permanently living) in Africa.

The scholarships cover 100% of the course fees for your chosen postgraduate taught course for one year (replacing any Departmental or Loughborough University scholarships or bursaries you may already have been awarded).

The scholarships are being funded through a combination of generous external funding and University funds.

Students will be expected to fund their travel and maintenance costs through other sources.

Application Process:

Students may only apply for the scholarship after an offer for a place at Loughborough University has been made.

Students who are in possession of an offer (conditional or unconditional) of a place on a postgraduate taught course can apply for the scholarship.

The deadline for applications is 30th April every year.

West Africa Scholarship Scheme: Durham University will be awarding three postgraduate scholarships to outstanding candidates from West Africa. Each scholarship is awarded in the form of a one-year postgraduate taught tuition fee waiver; one each in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Health, Faculty of Science and Durham Business School.

This means that students do not have to pay for their tuition fees but are only responsible for accommodation and living costs during their stay in the UK. As an example, UKBA recommend that students have GBP 600 per month for living costs and a 50 week stay in Ustinov, Durham’s postgraduate College costs approximately, GBP 6,000.

Application criteria:

• Hold a first class bachelors degree from a West African institution and satisfy the admissions requirement of your chosen course, including English Language proficiency
• Be a national from, and residing in, one of the above listed countries
• Liable to pay fees at the overseas student rate
• Intending to start your course of study in September
• Submit with your initial application a one page statement of purpose. This should include your eligibility for the award, your motivation for taking the course and coming to the UK and any relevant extra-curricular activities/work experience.

Application procedure:

• All students who meet the above criteria will automatically be considered for the scholarship
• The deadline for applications in order to be considered for the award is 30 April
• Applications will be considered by a panel of senior academics from the relevant faculties
• Successful students will be informed by 1 July
