The Commonwealth Secretariat has confirmed that Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma address the 14th conference of the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association that is slated to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Commonwealth Secretary General Sharma KamaleshThe conference that brings together executives in Africa’s radio and television industry will take place from 18th to 20th April.

According to a press release from the commonwealth, Sharma will speak to the theme of the Conference  – “Broadcasting Scores” –  underlining the key role played by radio, television and other forms of broadcasting in promoting democratic governance and development.

Sharma’s attendance at the South Africa Broadcasting conference is part of his official tour of three African countries including Ghana, Lesotho and South Africa. He is expected to discuss with Presidents of Botswana, Lesotho and South Africa on Commonwealth activities, including plans to implement key outcomes of the 2009 Heads of Government Meeting in Trinidad and Tobago.

The statement says Sharma will meet the Prime Minister of Lesotho Pakalitha Mosisili during his tour of the country from 20th to 21st. From 21st to 24th April, Sharma will hold discussions with Botswana President Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

Sharma will also deliver a keynote address at the Commonwealth Vice Chancellors Forum at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, on 25th April 2010. The forum organised by the Association of Commonwealth Universities, is being held under the theme“The role of higher education in meeting the Millennium Development Goals.”
