International Doctoral Program In Energy Science: The international Doctoral Program in Energy Science is offered to provide foreign students and researchers, who have a Master’s degree (or equivalent), an opportunity to further their studies toward a Doctoral degree at Kyoto University.

In this Doctoral Program, Japanese proficiency is not required since students can obtain the necessary credits by choosing ones among a variety of subjects presented in English and their research works are also supervised in English.

Program Application Eligibility Criteria:

  • Nationality of any of the countries with which Japan has official diplomatic relations
  • Under 35 years of age as of April 1
  • Master’s degree or equivalent (by the end of September)
  • Good command of English (Japanese is not required).

Closing Date: November 15

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in cooperation with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is pleased to announce the 2012 Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship Program (Borlaug Fellowship Program) for selected Feed the Future countries. These Fellowships are offered as part of the Feed the Future 21st Century Borlaug 21st Century Leadership Program. They are intended to increase the number of women in leadership positions in agriculture and, as such, only female applicants will be selected.

The Borlaug Fellowship Program promotes food security and economic growth by increasing scientific knowledge, advancing the transfer of new agricultural technology, and encouraging collaborative research to improve agricultural productivity. Under the Feed the Future 21st Century Borlaug Leadership Program, early to mid-career female agricultural professionals with an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong desire to aid agricultural development in their home country are targeted.

Please note: The deadline for all countries is April 6, 2012.

Korean Government Scholarships for International Students: The Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) is designed to provide higher education in Korea for international students in order to promote international exchange in education and mutual friendship between the participating countries.

Scholarships available:

A. Undergraduate Scholarships

Korean government invites 100 international students from 62 countries who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Korea.

To be selected as a KGSP grantee, any applicant should successfully pass through the 1st selection process set by the Korean embassies (or Consulates) of his or her origin.

To apply for the program, please contact the Korean embassy (or Consulate) in your country. Also see the links below for contact information.

Application deadline may differ from one country to another.

B. Graduate Scholarships

Available fields: All majors of general graduate schools

Total number of Applicants scholarships available: 600

Applicable Universities: 61 Universities (or Institutes) designated by NIIED

Scholarship Requirements

  • Both applicant and his/her parents must be citizens of the foreign country (Applicants cannot have Korean citizenship).
  • Applicants should be in good health, both mentally and physically, to stay in Korea for a long period of time.
  • Should be under 40 years of age.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.

Scholarship Covers:

  • Airfare: A round-trip economy class ticket
  • Monthly Allowance: 900,000 won (KRW) per month
  • Research Allowance: 210,000 won for students in human and social sciences; 240,000 won for students in natural and mechanic sciences per semester
  • Relocation (Settlement) Allowance: 200,000 won upon arrival
  • Language Training Fee: The full costs up to 1 year
  • Tuitions: All admission fees are waived by the host institution. The full tuition is paid by NIIED.
  • Dissertation Printing Costs: 500,000 ~ 800,000 won for the costs related to a printing dissertation
  • Medical Insurance: 15,000 won per month (limited insurance coverage) will be provided to the university for students.
  • Special fund for students proficient in Korean language (TOPIK level 5 or 6): 100,000 won per month(Commencing from the main program)
