Defenders of human rights have challenged government to hastily address concerns of state prosecutors to avert abuse of rights prisoners. Prosecutors have been on strike since last month over low pay.

This was after after high court directed prisons authorities to halt presenting of criminal suspects to court pending a conclusive resolve to the state attorney’s strike.

The Executive Director Foundation for Human Rights Initiative, Livingstone Ssewanyana, says the law in its current state lacks a window to have criminal suspects on remand bailed out.

Meanwhile, the actors propose that the chief justice frames bail guidelines to be followed by judicial officers

The Manager Legal Aid Program at Foundation for Human Rights Initiative, George Musisi, showed concern on how judges sometimes give outrageous conditions to suspects.
