Where technology is taking the world few people seems to understand. Now when someone is in USA and wants to listen to radio stations in Uganda can only pick a phone and start listening for free of charge.

Radio Simba FM (Uganda) has pioneered a new technology that enables people (Ugandans in US) to listen to Radio Simba FM using their mobile phones by dialing 712-432-2360.

Sections of Ugandans in USA who have dialed this number testify that it works and it’s clear. The service is for free day and night and it doesn’t require data connection.

The Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) has finally bowed down to public requests and criticism and switched on most of the radio stations it had switched off on January 8th this year over non payment of transmission bills amounting to three billion Uganda shillings.

The radios UBC switched off included BBC radio, Radio France International, Suubi FM, Buddu Radio, Voice of Africa, Greater Africa Radio, Bilal FM, and Italian Embassy Security Communication system.

Other communication houses UBC switched off also included Itel, Tangerine, Citizen TV, and infocom. Sources in UBC have told our reporters that most of the affected stations like TOP radio, radio Buddu among others were allowed to operate because they paid their electricity bills and others have entered into agreements with UBC.

Acting managing director of UBC, Paul Kihika says that UBC doesn’t have any problem with radio stations that meet all necessary requirements.

The habit of copying other peoples’ songs in Uganda is growing every week, every month and every year. Cases of singers complaining that their colleagues in the music industry have duplicated their songs are found at police stations, courts and heard on radio stations. For example, a little known Ugandan artist, M Jeff last week called a press conference and alleged that singer Juliana Kanyomozi had stolen his song dubbed ‘e sanyu lyange.”

Singer M Jeff told the press that he released the song two weeks before Juliana duplicated his song. However when Juliana was asked by informers about the development, she said that some of the upcoming artists have a habit of claiming that well established singers have stolen their songs in order to make themselves also popular.

E Sanyu Lyange hit for Juliana was written by gospel artist, Silver Kyagulanyi while M Jeff’s version was composed by Omulangila Ssuna.

Juliana says that she is not the first one small artists are targeting to get known, other singers like Dr. Jose Chameleon have been targeted before. She says that recently an upcoming singer, Jenkins Mukasa accused Chameleone of stealing his Valu Valu.
