The lord mayor Erias Lukwago has been warned against his intended roads inspection and rally in  kalerwe tomorrow unless he follows a set of guidelines given  by police.

Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago

Police wants the mayor to make a clear description of the  road  works  he intends to  inspect and their exact  locations, the  names of leaders  that  intend to  accompany him during the inspection  and also make sure that the rally is not an extension of the  activities of the 4GC.

The spokesperson Kampala metropolitan police Ibin Senkumbi says police has decided to set guide lines to avoid a repeat of an inspection exercise  by the mayor that turned into a political procession that led to the death of a police  officer AIP John Ariong early this year.

He advises the mayor not to put the rally on a public road, a market or a car park.
Senkumbi says if Lukwago does not comply with the guidelines, the police will not provide security or allow the activities to take place.

Uganda’s main opposition leader, Col. Kiiza Besigye and his Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) squad are planning to hold a consultative political rally at Bakery play ground in Namasuba, on Entebbe road next week.

But the Kampala Metropolitan police commander, Felix Kaweesi says that the police have not received any notification from Col Kiiza Besigye or FDC.

Sources in police say that even if Besigye and FDC notifies police their rally can not be permitted because the organisers are part of the banned Activists for Change (A4C) and For God and My Country (4GC) groups.

However the Police have deployed heavily in areas of Namasuba, Zanna and the nearby areas to make sure that the Attorney General’s declaration of unlawful society is enforced.

The A4C rallies were addressed by MP Mathias Mpuuga, Semujju Ibrahim, and political activists Ingrid Turinawe, Kazoora John, Jack Sabiiti and MP Roland Kaginda among others.

But the people at the rally were equally disappointed because Col. Kiiza Besigye was not at the A4C rallies in both Ntungamo and Mbarara. Besigye is currently in theUSAwhere he went to mobilize more funds to run A4C and FDC activities.

We have also learnt that Besigye has already met with key people in Barack Obama’s government, a move which has given the government officials inUgandasleepless nights.

The candidates in Jinja Municipality MP by election campaigns have warned the government against militarization of campaigns.

Paul Mwiru, the FDC candidate in the race says that the government has militarized campaigns and added that winning polls inUgandaon an opposition ticket is harder than passing through the hole of a needle.

Mwiru claims that the politics in Jinja is over militarized. He says that the government paramilitary groups of Kalangala Action Plan and Kibooko squad are deployed to beat opposition supporters.

He claims that the paramilitary groups are under a watchful eye of the police. Mwiru was addressing a rally at Jinja central market today.

Mwiru warned that the elections in Jinja are destined to be chaotic if the exercise remains militarized. The seat went vacant after the court nullified the election victory of NRM candidate in the race, Nathan Igime Nabeta.
