Born again leaders ask for Presidential pardon of prisoners

The Born Again leaders have asked President Yoweri Museveni to approve a list of inmates for pardon. This follows the Uganda prison service submitting a list of 2,500 inmates for pardon to the president to use his prerogative of mercy for them to be released.

The presiding Apostle of the Born Again faith in Uganda Dr. Joseph Serwadda while briefing journalists on the 14^th passover festival scheduled for 31^st December at Namboole stadium organized by Victory church in Ndebba says that over aged inmates and those with non-curable illness should be released to get God’s blessing. Apostle Serwadda also praised government for its effort to amend the NGO Act and allowed most born again churches to perform marriage wedding confirmation and issuance of marriage certificates to the married couples.

He called upon the Uganda Communication Commission to purchase a software device that tracks and cracks down songs and videos in electronic media which are immoral in nature. He proposed that there should be a reconciliation commission to reconcile the opposition and government on different matters.

Uganda needs mechanisms to discourage genocide – Onyango Kakooba

The Uganda representative at pan African parliament, Onyango Kakooba, calls on government to put in place mechanisms that will discourage youth from acts of genocide and crimes against humanity. Onyango Kakooba, who is also the member Buikwe North, says that although the genocide has not been experienced in the country as some other East African countries there should be a special focus on prevention of ethnic cleansing to stop youth from being lured in acts of killing others.

He says that government should encourage and develop programmes to raise awareness among the youth on the importance of protecting human rights, value of diversity to prevent acts like genocide and all forms of discrimination. He added that there must be legislation for prevention of genocide and war crimes with financial support discouraging such acts.

In July this year parliament granted west Budama south member of parliament Jacob Oboth Oboth leave to present the private members bill on the Prevention of Genocide Bill, 2015. This bill is intended to prevent genocide, strengthen national unity and promote reconciliation among the people.
