After Col. Kiiza of Forum for Democratic Change yesterday went with other political activists such as Hajji Mubarack Munyagwa, Erias Lukwago and Muwanga Kivumbi to have lunch at Kalerwe market in Kawempe Division, other political activists walked to the offices of the DPP, Richard Butera and asked him to resign his duties.

The women activists who walked into the DPP’s office were led by ms Barbra Allimad. The activists went there to express their opinion that he deserves to resign for abusing his office by administering biased prosecution.

They told the DPP that the very honourable thing he should do for the citizens is to resign his job and pave way for better administration of justice in Uganda.

The Inspector General of Government Mr. Rafael Baku and the Director of Public Prosecutions Richard Buteera have jointly re-echoed the need for allocation of more resources to the government agencies whose mandate includes fighting corruption and graft.

They noted that both institutions are grossly understaffed making monitoring and implementation of all the laws against corruption a milestone.

The IGG urged MPs to always move beyond paper accountability and conduct physical inspection to establish works undertaken by contracted companies and individuals.

Baku warned legislators not to overstep their mandate by undertaking to investigate cases of graft and abuse of office which is legally under the office of the IGG.

Legislators urged the Police and IGG to exercise their mandate with impartiality citing several cases where the institutions had failed to conclusively investigate cases.

The joint interactive meeting sought to improve working relations between the oversight committees of Parliament and the government departments of CID, IGG and DPP.

The Directorate of Public Prosecution has requested Government to put in place a law that will protect Witnesses so that they can be at liberty to provide accurate information as investigations go on.

The Director Public Prosecution (DDP) Richard Butera told Parliamentarians that most witnesses fear to come out and tell the truth for fear of their lives because they’re not protected by the law.

He appealed for the enactment of Witness protection act if Government is fight cases related to especially Corruption.

Butera called for team work among the Parliamentarians and always handle matters related to criminal nature to other arms of Government so that they can share experience which will ease their work as lawmakers.
