Speaking to journalist in Kampala today, engineer Byandala explained that the project will involve upgrading the existing line from Kampala to Gulu via the Teso sub region and then constructing a new line between Gulu and Juba.

Engineer Byandala added that talks are under way with donor agencies, development partners and the republic of South Sudan for funding and other logistics. Byandala further conformed plans to re-introduce the city passenger train services once negotiations are completed.
The Minister says government supports the request by the Kenya rift valley railways to resume commuter city service. He however added that the agreement will have to be reviewed to include passenger service.

Byanjdala explains that the current agreement only admits KRU to managing cargo train services.
