Makerere University Students who are involved in demonstrations protesting against the new tuition fees policy have a point. It is imperative to note that although these striking students are fighting physically for a cause, it is known inside the crevasse of their hearts that they are battling for their parents, guardians, brothers, sisters and all relatives who are away.

Currently if the parents of the students at Makerere University don’t work in government offices where reports indicate that public funds are stolen at wish, very few Ugandans can honour the 60% Tuition policy. The management of Makerere University in its new tuition policy wants all private students to pay 60% of the tuition fees in the first few weeks of the semester.

But the striking students know very well that they hail from indigent families! Back home they stay in grass thactched, muddy and wattle houses. Who is Uganda’s enemy in this pursuit? Above all, these are students who will end up unemployed after pursuing their DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATES and DEGREES at Makerere University. With my experience as a student at Makerere University, I know very well that there are several Ugandans with connections with president Museveni’s government who are already employment without having necessary qualifications. But they go to the university to chase for qualifications for purposes of cementing their jobs. It is sad to mention that it is these same people, some working in police, beating, arresting and shooting at Makerere University poor students who are only demanding for justice. I this is very unfair. As an academician, a journalist, and a ‘practicing politician,’ I know the new tuition policy at Makerere  University may not affect members of the general public directly today but it will crave them either way in future. So do not say that you are not bothered because your relatives, sons or daughters are infants. One day you will be duty bound to incrust the same tuition policy in future. So Ugandans need to wake up and say ‘NO’ to some ‘draconian’ policies at Makerere University, “As we build For the Future!

The Ministry of Education says it is to take action against all Schools that barred  students from sitting their final Exams because of none payment of third term school fees.

This follows reports that some schools stopped students from sitting for their exams on grounds that they had not completed paying their fees.

The Minister of Education and Sports Jessica Alupo, says Head teachers should not use UNEB exams as an avenue  to collect dues from students as they should have done that during the course of the term.

She described this as a violation of  human rights because everyone has the a right to attain education.

Alupo noted that the Ministry will put in place a committee to investigate such cases and later take action against schools and head teachers who are culprits.

A’ Level examinations kicked off yesterday with students sitting for their economics paper and biology.

The trend to day have left many women getting married to men younger than them unlike in the past where  a man had to marry a lady who was  younger since it was considered that this lady could have more respect for the man.

So many young men are seen comfortably dating older women and ending up tying a knot.

Reasons to date older women

  • Advancement-ladies say that they are influenced by the environmental changes which come with modernity.
  • Love
  • Sexual satisfaction-older women found young boys to be energetic unlike the older ones
  • Experienced-older women have been in more relationships than you so they know how to handle any kind of misunderstanding
  • Status –older women are accomplished, they have better paying jobs and are ready to spend any coin on whatever they want in life.
  • Fun-young men are seen to have more fun than the older men. older women find it good spending time with the people who make them happy

Don’t be afraid to fall in love with that person thinking that he is younger than you, you never know he might be the Mr. Right you’ve been waiting for

Members of Parliament are planning embark on the process of amending the constitution to make access to health a human right.

Members of parliament under their umbrella body the Network for African Women Ministers and Parliamentarians-Uganda chapter say that the right to health is not well stipulated in the constitution of Uganda which may be affecting the funding of the sector.

The chairperson of the Network for African Women Ministers and Parliamentarians-Uganda Chapter Slyvia Namabidde says that they are waiting upon the Attorney General to introduce the constitutional amendment bill to entrench the Right to health in the country’s supreme law.

Namabidde is optimistic that if the constitution clearly stipulates the right to Health for access, this would motivate government to consider the health sector one of its priorities.

Leading world HIV/AIDS have asked Uganda to implement its national HIV prevention and strategic plans if the country is to reverse the spiraling infections of HIV.

The right on the heels of the 2011 AIDS Indicator Survey in Uganda shows that the HIV prevalence has gone up to 7.3% from 6.4% in 2006.  The Director of the Regional Centre for Quality of Healthcare at Makerere University, Prof. Fred Wabwire- Mangen, says that the recent surveys on HIV spread show some changes in behaviour change and that the new HIV infections are worrying and calls for new thinking in research world.

Agreeing that Uganda is moving in the right direction on the fight against HIV, Dr Alex Coutinho, the executive director of the Infectious Diseases Institute at Makerere University, argued that the speed was still too slow to confront a “national tragedy.”

Dr. Coutinho observes that the health system in Uganda is functioning with leakages and if biomedical HIV prevention tools like medical male circumcision are to make an impact in Uganda, they needed a fully functional health system.

Many sections of Ugandans have sounded that they have little respect for people like former Local Government Minister, Bidandi Ssali. They say that when Bidandi Sali needed to stand up for right, he chose to go for wrong.

Richard Semitego, one of Uganda’s political activists says that Bidandi’s only redeeming action is that finally he saw ‘political’ right but how many Ugandans had died miserable death because he chose to promote bad instead of good.

Bidandi, clearly a man of vast intellect, in 2001 general elections made political statements which almost made everyone to laugh. When Col. Kiiza Besigye was campaigning for president on Reform Agenda ticket in 2001, Bidandi came out with a famous advert in support of president Museveni that run in Luganda thus: Owaye, olina kowekoreede? Olina omwana, londa Museveni ajja kukakukumia (literally translated as have you done something for yourself, do you have children, vote Museveni for protection).

Semitego says that not only did Museveni failed to protect Bidandi, but he has failed to protect him from imminent death.

Bidandi Ssali wrote to government and president Museveni last week saying that he should help him when ailing rather than waiting to accord him state funeral when he has died. Bidandi Ssali served in the NRM government as local government minister for 14 years before falling out with President Museveni over the lifting of presidential term limits from two to infinity.

You may not know, your sisters, mothers, friends might not have told you, but women have five deadly terms they often use in marriage.

The first term is FINE: This is the world most women use to end an argument when she knows she is right and the teller needs to shut up.

There is nothing: When a woman tells you that there is nothing it means there is something and you need to be a little bit worried.

Go ahead: When a woman tells you that ‘go ahead’ it is a dare, not permission, don’t do it or else she can commit suicide, separate her relationship with out or harm you.

Whatever: This is a woman’s way of saying I screw you. When a woman tells you that it’s okay, it means she is thinking long and hard on how and when you will pay back for your mistakes.

And lastly when a woman says ‘wow’ it is not a complement. She is only amazed that you can be such a dull (stupid) person.

Hundreds of students at Makerere University have been seen today moving office to office seeking for important clarification on whether the institution had truly increased tuition fees.

The KCCA councilor representing Makerere University, Bernard Luyiga says he is currently receiving numerous inquiries from Makerere University staff and students concerning many seemingly unfair and draconian policies being hurriedly considered and passed by Makerere University Council.

For the last three months, Luyiga says he has not taken part in the university council meetings because his membership was terminated by Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago.

Luyiga says he is reliably informed that the tuition was increased for some courses, and unjustifiable functional fees created and intake rose to unmanageable levels. Efforts to get an official comment from the university were not successful.

Councilor Luyiga has categorically distanced himself from Makerere University council resolutions taken in the last three months that have seen the tuition fees increased.

Luyiga also threatens to explore legal means of challenging some of the policies that seem to be unfair to the students and staff.
