The ministry of works and Transport has come out to curb down the rampant road traffic accidents caused by ill equipped vehicles on the road.

The ministry now wants all drivers, owners of motorcycles, road users and the general public to comply with the following measures. All vehicles including motorcycles must be fitted with reflectors.

The reflectors should be fitted symmetrically to each side of the rear of a motor vehicle, trailer or engineering plant. For motor cycles, the reflectors should be fitted to the rear of the motorcycle.

A reflector may be a lens fitted to a rear lamp or any reflective material of not less than twenty five square centimeters in area and at least two and one half centimeters in width.

According to the permanent secretary of the ministry of works, C. Muganzi says that a reflector shall return a red reflection when light from any following vehicles is projected on it.

Eight people have been confirmed dead after a bus overturned along the Lyantonde-Masaka highway this morning.

The confirmed deaths include 5 children. An unknown number of people were injured when the bus registration number UAE 896U lost control and overturned.

The bus belonging to Western Coaches reportedly overturned several times, rolling into a valley before stopping.

According to police, the accident occurred at Kayanja, in Lyantonde and the bus was heading to Kampala from Kamwenge..

The police have had to cut the wreckage pulling out both survivors and the deceased.
